Smartsheet Superuser

What do you like best about the product?
The most beneficial aspect is collaboration. I appreciate the support and community around Smartsheet. They guide our organization in building tools or workflows by answering questions, providing solutions, and suggesting ideas.
What do you dislike about the product?
The least helpful aspect is the limited access and tools to troubleshoot advanced problems. At a certain point, our organization was running into bugs/issues that only support could address. These bugs/issues would be easy to solve in other software we use because they had the tools and global access for us to do so.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartsheet provides our organization with accountability, efficiency, and history. We had information scattered across different software, which was inefficient and frustrating for employees. By consolidating into one primary workflow management system, we could assess and track responsibilities, improve and study inefficient processes, and save history as teams changed.

Has become a key tool for work projects and collaboration between departments.

What do you like best about the product?
Smartsheet has allowed us to develop process improvements through collaborated sheets that leverage the use of forms. In addition, the automated tools within these sheets make repetitive follow-up requests and manual data handling a thing of the past. To be able to close out a cross-department submission and having all parties get the email and update accordingly helps cut out so much wasted time.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are some challenges with the limiting options of the smartsheet automations. I think this is the area that they may be able to improve the most, where there is more flexibility with the types of automations that can be done as well as the complexity of said automations. Similarly, the column formula function is amazing, but it would be nice if it worked for more types of formulas to make calls to data on other smartsheets.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Being able to keep work organized between collaborating departments where work overlaps between the two, but each team handles a different piece of the work. It benefits us in freeing up time and resources in managing the work overall. We no longer had to micro-manage every submission we got.

Great way to keep things organized across departments.

What do you like best about the product?
I like that it makes it easier to collaborate in real-time and organize information across users when they are in different places. It makes it easier to share documents, tasks, and schedules with others users to keep everyone onboard.
What do you dislike about the product?
The restrictions on what users can/can't edit depending on their 'user access' that has been assigned to them. Seems pretty restrictive unless you are full access which I am sure is by design.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Having users assigned to certain tasks within a workflow or project that are all in different locations can be tough to collaborate and see when things are getting done, what is left, and what needs to be adjusted. SmartSheet helps with our workflow and helps users update information in real-time so other users know what comes next and when to step in for their assigned tasks.

There are lots of PMO / Project Management Tools out there Smartsheets is one of most user friendly.

What do you like best about the product?
1. User friendly therefore more likely to be leveraged by multiple stakeholders & supported long term.
2. The many basic templates to get you kick started.
3. Links with Tableau so you can dashboard on the company Site.
4. Being able to add comments, link files, see history easily for who made what changes. Pretty powerful stuff.
What do you dislike about the product?
1. While its very close to Excel not all of your favorite excel functions work within Smartsheet.
2. Linking smartsheets to other smart sheets not as easy as with excel.
3. Obviously its an additional cost to the organization VS a microsoft product you are already paying for
4. I would like to see a better functionality for resourcing / head count. YOu can schedule the same person for 100 action items but to my knowledge you can't run a labor review.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
From single team - single department problems, to supply chain wide OGSM deployment across multiple business units. If its on the OGSM it gets tracked in Smartsheets and reds reviewed weekly by their teams and the senior leadership teams.

One place to stay all updated

  • February 20, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It is simple to use because it is structured like an Excel table, but clever because it allows files and comments/discussions to be attached to each row of the table.

I use it to keep track of projects, with colleagues and with the client: you no longer have to search through endless emails received, risking not being copied, but just search through the project rows.

Notifications can be customised in a simple and agile way, adapting to all needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
Some people find it hard to accept that they no longer send e-mails, but always comment within smartsheet.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
1. keep all tasks of a project and a customer clearly listed. Monitor progress, status and deadlines.

2. keep all discussions and comments in one place, as well as all proposed variants with a file history. This makes it easy to reconstruct the evolution of the different tasks, and the decisions made in the comments.

Great tool - To Excel what Citizen Coding is to coders

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Smartsheet automatically formats and presents in a way that looks professional.
Without the need for constantly modifying cell height, wrapping, borders, sizing etc. Smartsheet mostly effortlessly makes data look professionally structured.

Learning about smartsheet with the integrated & follow-along exercises and videos is brilliantly integrated, and very clear - so increasing your proficiency so you can leverage the majority of the built in functionality (without needing to get too fancy on formulae, techniques and addons) can be done after a few hours effort. (No effort needed for about 50% of the functionality, and make that 75% if you're adept in Excel).
What do you dislike about the product?
There were limitations such as contextual access - e.g. we wanted to make the content accessible within the organization or to be approved based on some user list etc. and this wasn't possible.
There can also be some difficulty/restriction around unique IDs and the way that is implemented.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartsheet easily allows user forms to be created, with a workflow for content review and approval, and all of this can be integrated into the main single source of information.
It allows the build of a highly functional, integrated type system, with little effort so you can get straight to use/deployment.

Switching to Smartsheet has helped my team!

  • February 17, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The UX/UI is clean and simple which makes it easy to navigate around the platform. The last PM tool I used was extremely clunky, glitchy, and complex which made it tough to get buy-in from other departments to reference the tool. Smartsheet is straightforward, easy to digest and get around in. My PM team has greatly benefited from switching to Smartsheet.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is so much you can do with the tool that getting started can be tough. It's easy to get lost in the aspirational highly technical components and get overwhelmed. Simplicity has been key for me. Smartsheet University and online demos have been extremely helpful but I think new admins would benefit from being able to explain what they're trying to achieve and have someone build it with them in 1:1 sessions. I also wish you were able to drag milestones in calendar view. & sometimes the color coding glitches and doesn't stick.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
PM teams can build a timeline fairly quickly since we have a template in place to use as a starting point. Internal teams and clients can expect to view timeline milestones in a consistent way from project to project.

Good solution for project management

  • February 17, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Our group used to use excel to manage the project pipeline which was quite a manual and cumbersome process. Especially as new versions of the project tracker were floating around and we encountered several issues with version control. Since moving to Smartsheet, we have no more version control issues and it is actually a truly live document, with changes made available to users immediately. Over the years, our Smartsheet project tracker has evolved and continues to be changed and updated to meet our ever changing business needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
One of the things I dislike about Smartsheet for my own purposes, is that sub-tasks for projects hide key deadlines when projects are collapsed. I understand reports can help with this, but so far they haven't really met our purposes. As such, we are developing a manual work around to draw out key projects dates to be made visible when performing an overview of projects.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The issue we were trying to solve was to have a detailed gantt chart about our project pipeline, key dates and resources allocated. Smartsheet aids with this as it is a truly live document that we can update as and when business needs change.

Smartsheet an Honest Review

  • February 17, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Giving you the option to control, limit and restrict access to individual sheets, Smartsheet offers unique controls over data and documents unlike many other platforms. This allows users to view and extract information from sheets, whilst also restricting editing capabilities. This is great for any business. Furthermore, the ability to link several sheets together is a great way to compile separate, but relevant, information. I would definitely recommend Smartsheet as it offers many capabilities not found in other software apps.
What do you dislike about the product?
The downsides of Smartsheet are simply based on its user interface and the difficult learning curve. A good piece of software should not hide all of its best and most prominent features, instead, they should be clearly advertised and present on the given home page. Further to this, many business owners do not have the time to learn all of the features offered by Smartsheet and will instead opt for more relatable software such as excel.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Smartsheet isn't solving any problems because its use, particularly for our team, can be found in other software such as excel. However, the ability to link sheets and restrict access is a great way to manage a project.
