SolarWinds provides the flexibility needed to monitor small to large networks with the NPM

  • June 13, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
With the NPM, SolarWinds provides a core module with which it is possible to quickly and flexibly implement a network and server monitoring with multitenant capability.
Within a few hours a multi-vendor surveillance is installed and even alarms and reports are configured.
What do you dislike about the product?
For more than 6 years, we have been using SolarWinds with all our customers and I really can not find anything negative.
Feature requests from customers are taken seriously.
new products are integrated, existing products are developed further in short cycles
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
With SolarWinds, we've been able to consolidate multiple different network, server, and application monitoring tools from different customers.
This results in a shorter deployment time, lower network administration costs, less capital expenditure
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Visit Solarwind's Roadshows, the Solarwinds Thwack Board, to speak with customers, developers, and the sales team

What do you like best about the product?
NPM is quite simple but powerful tool for network monitoring. The feature I like most is the flexibility - you can create your own alerts/reports/polers and etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
Network Atlas has quite old interface and limited list of features.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The troubleshooting of all issues related to network outages always started with NPM.

Everything you need at your fingertips and easy to add to.

What do you like best about the product?
I like how neat and orderly it is displayed on the screen. You have it listed by subnet or supernet depending on your design on the left and then it drills down to all the subnets below that level on the right hand side. It have everything that you would need to describe your subnets. You can add VLAN information, descriptions and I just took another look at it. WOW! I didn't know you could look at it from a chart view. That is pretty impressive too.
What do you dislike about the product?
I can't really say there is anything that I don't like about it. It was kinda difficult to understand what I was seeing the first time I used it. I didn't really like it much but as I used it more and more, the easier it was to read and to fill out that it became indispensable. When something is this functional you really begin to understand and use it a lot.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The ability to keep track of all of our old subnets and implement the new ones. We used to have /24 subnets for everything. Even a point to point connection. Well not really but it was darn close to doing that.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Don't let it daunt you at first. It seems complicated but really it isn't. It can be a life saver sometimes.

A Powerful Yet User Friendly VM Manager

  • June 11, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Features offered by Solarwinds Virtualization Manager are immensely helpful to achieve real-world use cases and workflows.
However, the one I like the best is Dash-boarding which lets you create a customized and interactive dashboard, and the Network Device Performance-related events the Solarwinds VM offers give you insights into the uptime for your guest machines.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is the finest Virtualization Solution out there in the market but it's the bill of materials and the overall cost of the product to be paid which is not very budget-friendly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I've been solving problems related to business requirements and use-cases through virtualization offered by SolarWinds Virtualization Manager for quite some time now.
One benefit I can think of is the centralized manager for all my virtual machines located geographically all being managed from a single console and allocation of resources to these VMs have never been this easier.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is a boon to you if you are highly dependent on virtualization or if you are planning to virtualize your Data Centre Infrastructure.
This tool could save you a lot in the long run since you won't be paying for the hardware most of the time. However, one-time costs for the licenses, hardware, and installation are a bit on the higher side but trust me it is all worth it if you choose wisely.

What do you like best about the product?
Solarwinds NPM is a stable, rugged platform for monitoring most all your enterprise needs. There are many bells and whistles that are purposeful and meaningful for most all your issues and needs. High customization, that is easy, is a plus to any organization.
What do you dislike about the product?
NPM can be a little hard to manage on older versions of Windows, but is easily fixed in most situations. Upgrades were difficult in the past, but solarwinds has put much work into making this easier.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Out of the box reporting is very helpful to add visibility to our organization management and end users. Easy integration with servicenow allows us to alert out quickly and effectively around the clock, 365 days a year.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Get Loop1 consulting if you have a complex environment.

Exceptionally dynamic product for monitoring enterprise networks (large or small)

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
100 nodes or 100,000+ nodes the out of the box ability to monitor node, and interface status and availability, network latency, bandwidth utilization, interface errors and discards, CPU and memory utilization plus with the flexibility of Universal device pollers any feature/service of a device not listed above via SNMP. Even the most complex conditions for alerts are easy to create and modify. Web based intuitive reports for use in real-time as well as historical problem analysis and capacity planning. Automated device discoveries make this product a true breeze to maintain day-to-day. Built in auditing trail answers the administrative "who did what" questions fast. Is your infrastructure a vast mix of vendors? SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor has them covered, if not they will with an available monthly MIB update. Very active and involved user community at Thwack.com, got a question or trying something new search for it or ask it there a user / product developer or the product owner from SolarWinds may answer the same day. Solve a challenging issue in your environment, share it with the user community.
What do you dislike about the product?
Runs only on a windows platform and has to write some log files to the OS drive.
Pro-tip: Workaround available for the one thing I dislike.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Clients experiencing and complaining of poor business application response caused by clients at the same location over utilizing network bandwidth for non-business activities.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Excellent 30 day evaluation is the full blown product

    Computer Software

Excellent UI and well rounded product for NMS

  • May 31, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The GUI metrics presented are relevant and capture the high-level views nicely. The ability to drill into just about anything is very nice. The AppStack and PerfStack are my favorite resources. With additional modules like SRM, SAM, and VMan - it's great to be able to see the details from end to end.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be easy to get a little lost drilling around between linked resources.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Visibility into our applications and how they impact things like storage and network.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's expensive - but worth it.
