Excellent choice for the System and Network Admins!!!
What do you like best about the product?
I like almost all of the its products whether its freeware or paid or trial versions. I found the NPM is excellent and it makes our system and network administrators life easier.
What do you dislike about the product?
Its cost that everyone not could offer it even though they like like ferrari.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It saves our struggling time and effort and gives the report instantly than other products and besides that its more user friendly.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you want to get up-to-date system and network status then its good to go with Solarwinds NPM.
NPM - Practical Network Monitoring Backbone
What do you like best about the product?
NMP is very easy to understand and works well with other SW products.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish customization was more expansive...especially with web interface options (views).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
NPM serves as the "backbone" for our SW suite monitoring our ever expanding network monitoring needs.
Consolodated and Customizable
What do you like best about the product?
Lets you see your network the way you want to see it. Customizable and allows deep insight into the areas of interest.
What do you dislike about the product?
Performance sluggish with many elements, additional hardware and software required for large networks.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Insight into potential network issues allows a proactive posture that prevents unexpected outages.

Budget for additional products to provide a complete management solution.
NPM. THE monitoring solution!
What do you like best about the product?
This is a very highly customizable product, while it maintains its ease of use. The web interface is amazing and everything is running on Windows OS. SolarWinds has a strong user community (Thwack) where custom templates and solutions can be found. Using custom properties allows for a complete dynamic structure and automation of monitoring and administering nodes
What do you dislike about the product?
Complex licensing model, it would be good to see more integrations to other products, CMDBs in particular.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to determine any current issues with the infrastructure and also benefit from pre-active alerting. Capacity planning is another big plus as well as reporting to determine any bottlenecks in our network. It is also great that VM monitoring is offered out of the box, we were able to solve several Virtualization-related issues before they come up to the surface!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure you have a complete inventory of the infrastructure that you plan to monitor to make management even easier. Joining the Thwack community is also beneficial to gain from real users' experience! The admin guide is a bit bulky but worth reviewing if any issues occur.
So easy to use
What do you like best about the product?
NPM comes pretty much ready to go. It's easy to set up and get value out of immediately.
What do you dislike about the product?
I can't say there's anything I dislike as of yet.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use SAM and NPM for basic server monitoring . It was easy to configure and the default templates had us up and running in no time.

Definitely try the 30 day trial and see for yourself how good and easy to use this app is.

We have been using NPM for two years now and it has helped us numerous times identify network issues even before the customer noticed there was a problem.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would really like to see a way to have IPAM and NPM work together.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have seen benefits with improved up time and happier customers.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
My role primarily focuses on the SAM side of Solarwinds but I have assisted with configuring some of the network. I recommend downloading a trial and when you sign up, set it up right from the very beginning. If you do not set it up correctly, you will be highly annoyed by the unnecessary alerts. If you set it up correctly, it will help you in the long term to effectively monitor your network.
To be "in the Know" you need the right tools!
What do you like best about the product?
Where to start? Being able to tweak or configure each window (Home, Summary, etc..) for each department in order for them to get the data they need immediately is priceless. Some products I have personally used in the past create more work trying to isolate data or nodes, rather than SolarWinds NPM design negating the need to dig through tomes of unneeded information, the data you need is front and Center.
What do you dislike about the product?
Integration with Fortigate products would be a major improvement, I have heard it is in the works. Custom Colour in Orion would be nice (A Dark Theme)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My biggest benefit using NPM has been the ability to ensure Servers, Switches, Routers and other such network devices are operating within normal parameters. I had an issue where on one of our remote switches on a predictable schedule several ports would go down, affecting several of our Staff as well as the Printing. Thanks to the data provided by NPM I was able to isolate the issue to a particular network device that was causing the issue, saving much frustration by myself and the affected staff.

Check the online Demo Site - speak to the sales staff and do a 1 to 1 Demo.

Network visibility is good. Monitor and manage a wide range of devices.

Ease of management, integration with other products, NetPath for visibility regarding resources outside our environment
What do you dislike about the product?
I cannot think of the slightest pet peeve.

Visibility regarding internal and external resources - availability, response time, performance both real time and over a designated length of time, related reporting.

Become a Thwack member as there are extensive resources (training videos documentation resolved issues etc.) available for site members.
My NPM experience as a first timer
What do you like best about the product?
This is my first time using SolarWinds and although there is a bit learning curve to get your head around once your in your in. The sheer power of NPM is astounding to me, if I had this in my last few work places my life would have been a whole lot easier. Once you use it on a daily basis you very quickly begin to be able to customise the system to your needs and its power really start to shine.
What do you dislike about the product?
At the moment I dont feel like I have a dislike with NPM.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Over the years of us using SolarWinds we have been able to trouble shoot network issues and maintain network hardware across the board because of the clarity of our network NPM gives our engineers. This has benefited us greatly as countless hours as saved by using NPM and integrating other modules.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would recommend to anyone starting out to sign up to Thwack and look through all of their videos, guides and get involved with the community as it really does help.
