User-friendly platform efficiently manages backup and data protection
What is our primary use case?
We use Veeam Data Platform for backing up virtual machines and the entire environment. We back up Oracle and SQL databases with Veeam Data Platform. We are using Veeam Data Platform to back up 365, email, and mailboxes.
We have been using Veeam Data Platform for about 18 months to back up our on-premises environment. This includes all VMware clusters, Nutanix clusters, Hyper-V clusters, and Oracle and SQL databases. We are purchasing backup capabilities for mailbox 365 and VIP mailboxes.
The flexibility provided by Veeam Data Platform's hybrid deployment options is very simple, efficient, and user-friendly.
What is most valuable?
The flexibility provided by Veeam Data Platform's hybrid deployment options is very simple, efficient, and user-friendly.
We are using all features on-premises because we purchased the complete advanced platform. The main feature is the virtual environment backup, which is perfect in the market.
The most important aspect of this platform is data security with immutable data in the storage.
What needs improvement?
Improvements to backup with Oracle would enhance the Veeam Data Platform.
Compared to IBM, Veeam Data Platform is simpler but brings some challenges with automation in backup and Oracle backup configuration. Veeam Data Platform needs to improve this feature and plugin.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Veeam Data Platform for about one year and a half.
How are customer service and support?
I needed support once and was satisfied with the service. I would rate their technical support a 10 out of 10.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We previously used IBM but have replaced it with Veeam Data Platform.
The main difference between IBM Spectrum Protect and Veeam Data Platform is the practice of storing data in storage and making backups of virtual machines, connecting to the clusters to extract all the backup of virtual machines. It works perfectly.
What was our ROI?
I don't have specific ROI numbers to share, but the platform brings security to the business because with IBM, we didn't have protection for the virtual machines.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing is appropriate for an important platform that protects company business data. I don't consider the price expensive given its importance.
I believe it is not expensive; it's the regular price.
What other advice do I have?
We are currently testing Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) through a POC for about six months. We plan to use NKP for its friendly operation and administration capabilities. We are undergoing a transformation in our environment and need the platform for application virtualization and containers.
We use Carbonite for replication to the DR site. We don't currently use the intelligent automation and orchestration features from Veeam Data Platform, but we plan to implement them in the future.
I have only tried the automated lifecycle management feature for NKP. We are still testing the platform's logging capabilities through another analyst.
I would rate Veeam Data Platform 10 out of 10.

Veeam is easy to install and integrate into our environment. We use it constantly. The feature set for the price is excellent and the customer support is some of the best I've worked with.

Nothing. I absolutely enjoy using Veeam

Veeam backups our entire virtual infrastructure to our immutable repos. It also scans for malware and other potential threats so we know that our backup data is safe.

The Veeam data plantform has been a very efficient system when it comes to restoring VM's for us in a HyperV environment. We have never had any issues with the data being there one we have triggered a restore.
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI isn't always the clearest, it can sometimes take a little poking around to try to figure out where everything is when you need to do a restore. Make sure you take the time to document the steps before you are in a data restore incident.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Veeam handles our data backup, backup up our multiple physical hosts and Virtual Machines. We have a very heavy Hyper-V user so it's great that Veeam works so well with Hyper-V Backups.

It just works is the mojo of Veeam, and it does the job so you don't have to sweat it.

licensing is not always easy depending on backup needs.

Veeam just does your backups and replications without too much hassle and you can be sure you'll be able to restore, it is not a schrodinger's backup, either good or bad, it is always good as you can check with surebackup.
