Data resilience and mobility enhance operations with effective automation and support
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features in Veeam Data Platform are data resilience and data mobility.
In assessing the platform's ransomware protection, I find Veeam's immutability feature very valuable.
Regarding their role in policy-driven data management, I find that the data qualification within the backup jobs is quite sufficient. At the customer side, we speak about backing up Hyper-V data and unstructured data, and this is mainly what the Veeam Data Platform is focused on. Therefore, this is quite well integrated.
What needs improvement?
The licensing model is currently in improvement, and changing from instance license to Veeam Universal License is a great step. Further improvements could include the logging functionality, which I think should be more granularly adjustable, but in this case, it can be improved anytime.
Regarding additional features expected in the next release to make it even better, most parts are on the way, and the AI integration should be improved.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been dealing with Veeam products for almost eight to nine years.
How are customer service and support?
I would rate their technical support eight or nine out of ten. The escalation from first, second to third tier is sometimes very long-lasting, but the resolve rate is quite high.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
Regarding the initial setup and configuration, I find it straightforward and it should not be more simplified because users are able to back up most environments within minutes. This is one big advantage of Veeam Data Platform.
What other advice do I have?
Their pricing is reasonable.
The advanced analytics, which are part of the Veeam ONE portfolio, are not currently productively used in optimizing backup operations.
In my assessment of the automation features of Veeam Data Platform, it is greatly usable if implemented correctly, but currently in the customer environment, it is not being used. We have to use the built-in REST API functionality to automate the workflows at the customer side specific to the customer environment. The REST API functionality of both platforms, Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam for 365, is greatly improved over the last years and almost fully usable for automation.
On a scale of one to ten, I rate Veeam Data Platform a nine.

Reliable management and quick recovery enhance operations
What is our primary use case?
For open-source products, I am using OPNsense and email security is handled by Amavis, which is from Linux.
OPNsense is not on the cloud; I have it deployed on-premise.
Apart from Amavis and OPNsense, we don't have other open-source products, especially in the security part, or backup solutions or storages.
For backup processes, I am using Veeam Backup & Replication for the protection of our virtualization and virtual machines.
What is most valuable?
Based on my subjective experience, the greatest part about Veeam Backup & Replication is its fast recovery and easy management.
I often use fast recovery and the Instant Recovery features. I have faced no challenges while using Veeam Backup & Replication; everything worked all the time.
Veeam Backup & Replication is easier to configure and more reliable than UrBackup, which makes it a superior solution.
What needs improvement?
The price is consistently an area for improvement.
It's quite expensive to scale because if we have more machines to secure, we have to buy a greater license and a bigger license, though it's quite easy to scale overall.
I would appreciate seeing some updates with AI functionality or anything AI-related, though I am uncertain if there is a use case for AI in backup.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Veeam Backup & Replication for backup for four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
There are no glitches or performance issues whatsoever; the solution is very stable. The only issues I encountered were due to the performance of the server, which is not a problem of Veeam Backup & Replication but our own issue.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It's quite expensive to scale because if we have more machines to secure, we have to buy a greater license and a bigger license, but it's quite easy to scale overall.
I would rate it eight points for scalability.
How are customer service and support?
I had experience with technical support from Veeam Backup & Replication one time, and it was quick and easy. There was just one component that didn't work right, and we wrote to them, and I think one and a half hours later, we solved the problem.
I would rate Veeam Backup & Replication support a ten; my experience was very good.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I was previously using UrBackup.
Veeam Backup & Replication is easier to configure and more reliable than UrBackup, which makes it a better solution.
How was the initial setup?
The setup is relatively easy; it's just about starting the setup, starting the upgrade or installation, and entering your values, your license and so on. Then I install, and it works.
What about the implementation team?
I do the setup myself; I think only the license is expensive, not the setup cost.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I do the setup myself; I think only the license is expensive, not the setup cost.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I have experience with other products for backup, but Veeam Backup & Replication is the most reliable.
What other advice do I have?
I use Sophos products in my operations. There is one product called Sophos X-Ops, an Advanced Threat Protection product, but I don't really know this one.
Sophos Central is on the cloud. We don't work with cloud providers. We just have everything we own on-premise.
I don't work with Sophos Virtualization, Security, Sophos Email, Phish Threat, or Network Access Control (NAC) products. All my security is open-source.
It's a part of a Linux server, and the name is Amavis, spelled A-M-A-V-I-S.
We use Veeam Backup & Replication for backup. Apart from Amavis and OPNsense, we don't have other open-source products, especially in the security part, or backup solutions or storages.
We don't use replication, but I know from another work experience that replication of backups with Veeam Backup & Replication works fine.
Veeam Backup & Replication has all the functions I need.
My final rating for Veeam Backup & Replication is 8 out of 10, primarily due to pricing concerns.

Replication and deduplication make data management efficient and secure
What is our primary use case?
Years ago with customers and nowadays, we are using Veeam Backup & Replication in my job. We used to replicate our virtual machines between our data centers and make backup to an external NAS.
We are using the replication functionality to replicate all our machines between data centers. In case of disaster or disaster recovery, we have cross machines, so we could bring up a new scenario in minutes.
We only use Veeam Backup & Replication at the moment and we're not chained to the platform.
What is most valuable?
The features I find most useful in Veeam Backup & Replication are that it's fast, has deduplication, and excellent speed. It's fast, secure, and uses low bandwidth and backup space.
The scalability of backup and replication is effective for our growing data volume. We have been growing from about 50 virtual machines to about 150, and we think we will grow to 200, maybe. It's easy with only buying some more licenses and it's not more difficult than that.
What needs improvement?
What they're doing now in version 13 of Veeam Backup & Replication is not requiring a Windows platform, which is very good. I don't prefer Windows in terms of security. I thought that having a Windows machine running this was not the best for security. I prefer security and resources dedicated to this because of the license and a graphical interface.
I prefer what's now being developed, which can be on a Linux platform with a web interface, instead of the Windows console. I think a web console is easier and more convenient. In version 13 they are implementing this, but I think they have to complete it.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Veeam Backup & Replication for about 10 years or so.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
I find Veeam Backup & Replication easy to set up. The deployment of Veeam Backup & Replication took only some hours.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Veeam Backup & Replication is pretty stable these days. From time to time, we have had some problems with snapshots, but now it's not a problem anymore.
I haven't faced any serious challenges with Veeam Backup & Replication.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability of backup and replication is effective for our growing data volume. We have been growing from about 50 virtual machines to about 150, and we think we will grow to 200, maybe. It's easy with only buying some more licenses and it's not more difficult than that.
How are customer service and support?
I haven't contacted Veeam support. We always find solutions through the knowledge base.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have tried other solutions before working with Veeam Backup & Replication, but not in my current job.
How was the initial setup?
I find Veeam Backup & Replication easy to set up. The deployment of Veeam Backup & Replication took only some hours.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
For our company, Veeam Backup & Replication is reasonably priced, although it may be expensive for smaller companies depending on some limits.
What other advice do I have?
The features I find most useful in Veeam Backup & Replication are that it's fast, has deduplication, and excellent speed. It's fast, secure, and uses low bandwidth and backup space.
The scalability of backup and replication is effective for our growing data volume. We have been growing from about 50 virtual machines to about 150, and we think we will grow to 200, maybe. It's easy with only buying some more licenses.

Veeam Platform Review
Veeam is a true and tested platform, having evolved amd maintained a top spot over the year!
Data integrity improves with reliable backup and recovery performance
What is our primary use case?
We are using Veeam Backup & Replication, and we are partners for Veeam. We are using Veeam Backup & Replication for our data centers instead of Veeam Backup for AWS or Google Cloud.
We use it ourselves and also use it for some of our clients. We resell and implement it for some of our clients.
For Veeam Backup & Replication, I recommend it for companies in industries such as financial, IT service providers, and we have some in the oil and gas industry. The implementation with Proxmox was for an internet service provider, and we also have manufacturing clients.
We will not reject any company that comes to us for a Veeam solution. We run hosted applications for various companies, and within the hosted solution, we use Veeam. We have two sites for Veeam, one for primary and one for backup, and we also use two other sites for replication of data.
What is most valuable?
My technical team can provide a more accurate answer regarding experience with its recovery speed and reliability, but we haven't had any issues with it. It backs up what we want, we replicate, and especially when we want to recover, we can recover the backed-up data. The compression we have is quite good, saving us storage space. It's quite a good product.
What needs improvement?
One additional feature I would to see in the future is the ability to do file and database backup only. Currently, it does image backup, so we would prefer to see a backup option for just the database or files instead of backing up the whole VM, as many of our applications use SQL or Oracle databases.
I would to see AI capabilities in the future, particularly in data handling and automation. I haven't seen any AI capabilities provided yet, but I will have to check with my technical team.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been working with Veeam for approximately four years now.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
It was easy to deploy Veeam Backup & Replication.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We haven't faced any issues with Veeam Backup & Replication, except for one that was resolved regarding a particular product. Veeam running on Proxmox took some time to resolve, but they were able to fix it, and we were satisfied with it.
Veeam works with Proxmox, but we ran into a temporary issue. My technical team can explain in detail what the issue was, but Veeam was able to resolve that problem.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price is quite good, as Veeam gives us good discounts, and we are quite satisfied about the price. We can negotiate very good discounts with them.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I think Veeam Backup & Replication is the best option because I haven't found much competition. The only other solutions we've looked at are Hyper-V and Windows Backup, but they aren't real competition, so we consider Veeam one of the best solutions. We build competencies into it with our sales and technical teams and are comfortable with them while enjoying good discounts.
What other advice do I have?
Based on my experience with Veeam Backup & Replication, I rate this solution 10 out of 10.
