Alteryx at one year using
What do you like best about the product?
Easy to learn, find help, training and turning over workflows to colleagues. It connects to a lot of file types and databases. The learning curve is similar to Excel in that you can start with what you need at the moment and continue to increase your skills thru video, live training and the community.
What do you dislike about the product?
The next step to server is complex and could be improved by a local server development environment, but this is not a must have by any means.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am managing multiple file sources, blending, validating and controlling updates. This is a time saver and allows me to do more. Alteryx self documents and is easy to turn over to others to perform the processes which I develop.
Data Analytics Tool Saving Me Hours
What do you like best about the product?
The non-coding-heavy interface of Alteryx makes it easy to use, even without a computer-science background. It has a very good GUI, and the tools are well-defined and easy to understand. Alteryx capably handles massive datasets, manipulates them with ease, and helps join disparate data to form more meaningful outputs that aid in decision processes.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are several things in Alteryx that could be made better. For example, if I want to prepend a date to an output Excel file, it would be nice to simply have a checkbox option on that output tool that says "prepend today's date to file". Currently, I have to use a formula tool that incorporates the text of the entire file path, a DateTimeNow function, as well as the rest of the file name as text, and then choose to "Replace Entire File Path" from X field to do the same thing that a simple checkbox could accomplish. I'm sure the backend coding isn't so simple, but given the massively complicated tools already built into Alteryx, I'm sure it is possible.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Alteryx to assemble, clean, and join multiple sources of supply chain data into a single database that can be analyzed against internal and external necessities. Instead of relying on multiple individuals to create, interpolate, and send me data, Alteryx allows me to connect to both source databases and off-line files, and has the tools to automate the cleaning and prep of those data. Furthermore, Alteryx has advanced transposition, summarization, and union/join tools that allow me to pull together all data related to our company's list of SKUs, allowing for a one-stop shop for analysis with the formula tools and other predictive analysis tools.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you currently use Informatica, Alteryx is a huge step forward, especially in its transparency of operations and ease of implementation of scheduled workflows and shared workflows.
Incredibly powerful and I only use about 1% of its capabilities
What do you like best about the product?
Ease of joining multiple salesforce tables without having to know SQL
What do you dislike about the product?
The automated scheduler is an additional charge
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Alteryx to structure and populate data for all of my Tableau dashboards. I can now build out my own data sets without burdening my IT team with SQL requests. This has allowed me to build out data and analyze issues much quicker than in the past.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Plan to invest some time learning the basics of the tool. There is definitely a learning curve, but there are tons of benefits once you learn how to leverage Alteryx.
Must have tool for ETL and data science
What do you like best about the product?
ETL capabilities, data modeling capabilities using multisource, there is no limit to how many different sources you can connect to, data visualizations are also much better, R integration for data science capabilities which allows users who do not have experience in R programming to drag and drop and see the power of R, the free certifications with a final professional certification exam and learning materials available online.
What do you dislike about the product?
Visualizations could be more better when compared to Tableau / power BI. They should have the property which allows other tools to access the transformed data into themselves to be used for visualization purposes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Data cleansing from multiple sources, data transformation using different techniques, schema design usiing multiple sources, data modeling using multiple tables, ETL while cleansing data. Data science drag and drop features with R integration is easy to use, you may not know to code in R but you can still use the many awesome features of R via this tool
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are looking for an easy to use tool for ETL, visualizations and data science with R even if you don't have any experience in programming, look no further, this is the right tool.
Awesome Software
What do you like best about the product?
Alteryx has the ability to do so much more computing than excel. I love that it supports numerous file types and can create all types of different outputs.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be a bit confusing to learn at first, however the help functions are excellent
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am using alteryx to complete repetitive tasks that are typically done by humans. I have realized how much easier it is to use alteryx!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Extremely useful in combining multiple types of data
Alteryx is one of the best tools I've ever used
What do you like best about the product?
Alteryx allows you to automate so many redundant tasks. It allows your team to move faster, find insights, and pull data from multiple data sources
What do you dislike about the product?
Honestly, I don't believe I have any complaints. The tool is amazing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use alteryx for everything. We have several processes that are now automated. For instance, Finance needs a report from me on a monthly basis. I have setup a workflow to run each month and email the report out to them without ever having to touch it again. This is a huge time saver.
Easy to learn/use, simplified reports and data manipulation
What do you like best about the product?
How flexible the program is, you can build anything if you take the time and energy.
What do you dislike about the product?
Hard to build sql queries natively. I usually have to use a different software to initiate my statement. Also pre and post sql statements are lacking.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Automated reporting is HUGE.
I can run reports and refresh tables dependably, and check the status at any time.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
Start small and then take one step at a time. All the tools can be overwhelming.
End to end analytics in a single run...
What do you like best about the product?
It's pretty straightforward to get a grasp on your companies data, either it's small data like surveys or
big data like millions of credit card transactions or IoT sensor data....
In a single solution, Alteryx Designer you can automate an ETL process, an interactive report or a full predictive/prescriptive model. Rerun without a hassle, turn it into an API and share or even deploy it in a few minutes thru a scoring engine, it is just unbelievable...

What do you dislike about the product?
Should be able to utilize my computer's GPU cores instead of only CPU cores...
Some additional automated data prepping like parsing HTML tables is needed for ease of use.
There are a lot of predictive, time-series, clustering modelling options ok, but additional automated modelling and hyper-parameter tuning without coding is needed...

all ad hoc analysis, building apps for users , data discovery
Alteryx brings the Visio-like workflow paradigm to complex data normalization.
What do you like best about the product?
Alteryx connects the dots better than any data mining/self-service program I know. It handles a lot of different data sources very easily (whether a flat file, OLAP cube, or database) and allows for normalization and data cleansing of multiple data sets. If your organization has several different systems of record, data feeds and master data tables, Alteryx will allow you to sort it all out without rewriting upstream programs or redesigning complex systems of record already in place.'
What makes it a pleasure to use is its Visio-like workflow layout - you can easily "connect" the process of your overall business workflow to a sub-process within Alteryx which takes you though each step like a flowchart.

What do you dislike about the product?
It doesn't handle the ETL aspect very well since it's not really a database, and it doesn't have a very intuitive way to handle scheduling of workflow operations, and it doesn't have a section to manage things like lookup tables from a systemwide perspective. There is a fairly high learning curve considering the program is meant for non-experts. This product is most effectively used by data analysts, business analysts, and process/product owners.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Bringing disparate databases, systems of records, and transactional information into a harmonized end result that can be easily digested within BI tools and as well as end-user consumption.
