No-Code Data Manipulation, but Some Alteryx Limitations
Workflow automation has streamlined data preparation and has reduced my ETL effort
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
The features in Alteryx that I find most valuable are the connectors they have provided, which are really helpful for me, and I am able to connect to databases easily, so that is helpful.
The data blending feature does help improve my data preparation process.
Because I am using Gallery as well, I find that some of the processes we are running are able to be automated, so it is useful and simplifies my workflow.
The main benefits that Alteryx provides for me are that it is easier to use, I do not have to code anything, so it is a non-coding tool, and it saves my time in that aspect.
What needs improvement?
I cannot think of anything that needs improvement in Alteryx because it is working fine as expected, so I do not have any issues or feedback for it.
In my opinion, Alteryx does have a zone to do predictive analytics, but it is very limited, so they could focus more on that.
Predictive analytics is available, but it is available in a limited sense and it is not full-fledged. If I have to customize it or anything, it is difficult unless I edit the code, so I have to code it to make any changes to the algorithms that I am using, which would be helpful.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Alteryx for close to seven years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I have not noticed anything with the product itself, but with some of the connectors they have provided, there are some issues, so I would rate stability as an eight.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
For scalability, I would rate it as a nine.
How are customer service and support?
Technical support is not applicable for me as I have not reached out to Alteryx, so I do not know about their support.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
My company had the licenses for Alteryx; I did not go and purchase anything.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup for Alteryx is simple; you just have to download and install it, so it is pretty straightforward, and anyone can do it.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Based on my experience, I would say the main competitor for Alteryx is Python, actual coding.
For me, it would always be Alteryx, but considering the licensing cost, if someone knows how to code in Python, that is preferred. However, for me, it would be Alteryx because it is already provided by the organization.
What other advice do I have?
I do not focus on the integration with third-party vendors, and since my company takes care of all the licensing, I do not have to worry about the cost or budget in that aspect, so I really do not know and cannot comment on the costing model.
Alteryx indeed saves my time.
I would recommend Alteryx; if licensing has already been taken care of, it is a great product to use, but if you are worried about the cost, it is definitely high, as the costs are a bit high for Alteryx, so if Alteryx could reduce its cost or licensing to make it more affordable, it would be a great tool to use.
I would rate this product a nine out of ten.
Streamlined Data Processes with Alteryx
Reviews Large Excel Files in Seconds and Saves Time
Time-saving workflows have transformed data preparation and predictive analysis for my team
What is our primary use case?
Alteryx's main use case is its no-code capability, allowing me to build complex data pipelines using a drag-and-drop interface. If I can draw a flowchart, I can use Alteryx, which provides massive time-saving. Tasks that take a week in SQL or manual Excel work can often be automated in Alteryx.
I primarily use Alteryx for data preparation, cleansing, and transformation. For example, I use it for removing duplicates, handling missing values, formatting data and numbers, and joining multiple datasets in my daily work.
Regarding my main use case for Alteryx, I am using it primarily for time-saving.
What is most valuable?
Some of the best features Alteryx offers are its no and low-code capabilities. It delivers massive time-saving and includes spatial and predictive analysis. Alteryx includes built-in tools such as drive time analysis and linear regression, which are much harder to achieve in standard BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
In addition to these features, Alteryx provides built-in spatial tools that can calculate drive time and location-based insights with minimal effort through drag-and-drop spatial tools, low complex coding, faster, and more accurate results. Linear regression predicts sales based on marketing spend, estimates costs based on usage, and identifies trends in historical data.
Alteryx has positively impacted my organization by saving time, improving accuracy, and enabling better decision-making. Using Alteryx, complex tasks such as data cleansing, joining datasets, drive time analysis, and linear regression can be done much faster compared to manual Excel or SQL work. This reduces dependency on manual effort and lowers the risk of human error. Drive time analysis helps my organization make better location-based decisions, such as identifying optimal service areas or improving customer reach.
What needs improvement?
Alteryx can be improved in a few areas. First, pricing flexibility can be better, especially for small teams and organizations. The current licensing cost can be a barrier for wider adoption. Second, there are performance issues; optimizing for very large datasets can be improved. When working with high-volume data, workflows sometimes require additional tuning. Third, stronger cloud-native capabilities and cloud integration can be enhanced to help organizations move away from on-premises setups.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working in my current field for more than five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Alteryx is quite stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Alteryx is scalable for most enterprise analytics and data preparation workloads. It handles multiple workflows and users reliably when deployed on appropriate infrastructure. Scalability mainly depends on hardware resources such as CPU and memory for very large datasets or high concurrency. Proper capacity planning and workflow optimization by users are required. Overall, it scales very well for departmental and enterprise use cases.
How are customer service and support?
The customer support for Alteryx is better.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I previously used Automation Anywhere because it is unable to handle a large amount of data, which is why I switched to Alteryx.
What was our ROI?
I have seen a return on investment from using Alteryx. It has delivered a strong return on investment for my organization by significantly reducing manual effort in data preparation, reporting, and analytics. Tasks that earlier took hours in Excel or SQL are now completed in minutes. This results in time-saving, improved data accuracy, and better productivity. Despite the higher licensing cost, the overall business value and efficiency gain justify the investment.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing indicates that licensing is much costlier. The ongoing cost is very high, which means it is all about checking by my manager because the pricing is a sensitive matter. He did not communicate the details with me, but as of now, to my knowledge, the price is very high, with licensing typically starting around five thousand dollars plus user per year. This often prices out a small setup.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I evaluated other options before choosing Alteryx, looking from a price perspective. If any product has a lower price and better results, then I will look for that.
What other advice do I have?
My advice for others looking into using Alteryx is that for time-saving, it is the main purpose for any tool. If they use it to save time, they can use Alteryx. It is quite low-code, so anyone can use it with just drag and drop and minimal logic without managing heavy coding. I would rate this product nine out of ten.
