Harvey's Restaurant Takes a Cloud-first Approach to Innovation

Harvey’s is a Canadian restaurant chain that has been serving customers for over 60 years at more than 290 restaurant locations. Its parent company, Recipe Unlimited, began building on Amazon Web Services (AWS) to adopt a cloud-first approach to innovation and develop applications in the cloud that would help the company scale quickly to meet customer demand.

Using Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), Amazon CloudFront, Elastic Load Balancing (ELB), Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) and AWS Lambda, Harvey’s developed a mobile ordering solution for guests to use to order takeout and uniquely helps guests make their burgers their way using the app’s innovative “burger builder.” Supporting the app is in-restaurant digital signage and order management tablets that help restaurant operators easily manage demand.

Building on AWS facilitates Harvey’s to automatically scale the platform to meet peak traffic loads during marketing campaigns while maintaining 100 percent uptime and supports its development team to rapidly innovate new guest enhancements and features. With a 4.8/5 rating, the Harvey’s app is one of the highest rated restaurant apps on the iOS app store.
