SWEEP Helps Global Brands Measure and Act on Carbon and ESG Data Using AWS

SWEEP, an AWS Partner, provides a solution for managing carbon data and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) data to help customers meet disclosure regulations, drive innovation, and reduce carbon emissions through carbon reduction strategies. It can be challenging for a company to keep track of ESG and carbon data across its business. SWEEP’s software platform provides the flexibility and scalability needed to map and manage complex metrics to make data-driven business decisions.

Overview

Founded in 2020 in France, SWEEP built its business intelligence solutions with the ability to connect data from various systems and aggregate it to provide valuable reports for users and stakeholders. Companies face the challenge of managing their carbon footprints using data that is often incomplete, complex, or unclear. Using Amazon Web Services (AWS), SWEEP streamlines carbon and ESG data management in one platform so that it can track performance, implement carbon reduction strategies, and meet disclosure rules.

Opportunity | Being an AWS Partner

The core infrastructure of SWEEP’s solution is built on databases such as Amazon Aurora, which provides high performance and availability at global scale with full MySQL and PostgreSQL compatibility. The company raised $100 million in the first year of its launch and built its first minimum viable product in 6 months.

SWEEP is a validated AWS Partner, and its solution is available for purchase in AWS Marketplace, where organizations can find, buy, and deploy software-as-a-service solutions. SWEEP’s customers can purchase the solution through their existing AWS accounts.

Using AWS, we remove the need to manage and operate the whole infrastructure. We can instead focus on projects that add value for our customers as we work toward our mission: building a sustainable future.”

Solution | Reducing Customers’ Carbon Footprints Using AWS

SWEEP’s solution gathers data from customers’ services, employees, and suppliers. Then, the company uses AWS to fully manage its core infrastructure, data ingestion, databases, and compute workloads. To deploy, manage, and scale its applications, SWEEP uses Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS), a fully managed container orchestration service.

One significant benefit for SWEEP was the ability to quickly go to market for its enterprise customers. “To go on the enterprise market, you need to check a lot of boxes regarding compliance, backups, and disaster recovery,” says Victor Hiairrassary, principal engineer at SWEEP. “Without AWS, we would not be able to do it.”

SWEEP saves its customers time and resources by using AWS. For example, some businesses were previously using spreadsheets to measure carbon footprint data. Because SWEEP’s solution automates and streamlines data collection using AWS, its customers are saving resources and 50 percent of time devoted to data collection, freeing them up for the auditing and reporting process to meet the latest regulations according to the AWS Shared Responsibility Model.

AWS is committed to achieving Amazon’s goal of net-zero carbon by 2040, and SWEEP uses AWS in its solution to provide customers with granular data insights and audit-ready reports to drive their carbon reduction strategies. More than 70 percent of SWEEP’s customers have implemented carbon reduction initiatives at scale, and over 60 percent run monthly carbon footprint assessments across their businesses. SWEEP manages more than 60 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent on its platform.

Outcome | Succeeding as a Startup Using AWS

SWEEP attributes a lot of its early success to its adoption of AWS, including the ability to simply hire new people. The company uses AWS to be flexible and to scale its solutions to meet customer needs. Moreover, SWEEP is pleased with the technical support AWS offers for account management.

“Using AWS, we remove the need to manage and operate the whole infrastructure,” says Hiairrassary. “We can instead focus on projects that add value for our customers as we work toward our mission: building a sustainable future.”
