AWS Storage Gateway’s Tape Gateway is now available in South America (Sao Paulo)

Posted on: Sep 24, 2019

Tape Gateway, a member of the AWS Storage Gateway service family, is now available in the AWS South America (Sao Paulo) Region.

Tape Gateway provides you a simple lift-and-shift of existing physical tape-based workflows to virtual tapes in AWS. You connect your existing backup application to a Tape Gateway deployed as a virtual or hardware appliance on your premises. Tape Gateway compresses, encrypts, and moves your tape to a virtual tape library in Amazon S3. When you eject or export a tape through the backup application, Tape Gateway archives that virtual tape from S3 to S3 Glacier or S3 Glacier Deep Archive. You can retrieve a tape archived in S3 Glacier and S3 Glacier Deep Archive to S3, typically within three-to-five hours and twelve hours, respectively.

Tape Gateway is available in 20 AWS regions, including GovCloud (US-West) and China (Beijing). To get started, see step-by-step instructions in the AWS Storage Gateway User Guide.
