Amazon EMR announces support for running clusters with Amazon EC2 Spot Instances in the AWS GovCloud (US) Regions

Posted on: Apr 29, 2020

You can now use Amazon EMR with Amazon EC2 Spot Instances to reduce the cost of your big data workloads in AWS GovCloud (US) Regions.

Using Amazon EMR with Amazon EC2 Spot Instances allow you to take advantage of unused EC2 capacity in the AWS cloud for up to 90% off On-Demand pricing. This allows you to reduce the cost of existing jobs and provide more compute capacity for those jobs that need it, reducing their execution time and overall cost. You can also use EC2 Spot Instances with the Amazon EMR automatic scaling feature, allowing you to dynamically scale your cluster in and out based on cluster usage or other job-related metrics.
