64-bit (x86) Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

    Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

    Additional details

    Usage instructions

After the instance starts running, open a browser page at its public IP address (e.g., "http://54.145.197.17 " or "https://54.145.197.17 "). The initial VNC password is the EC2 instance ID (e.g., i-950f5643) . The default user is "ubuntu", and its initial password is the EC2 instance ID.

For VNC connections, use your favorite VNC client software (e.g., tigerVNC, tightVNC, realVNC) and connect to the instance public IP address and port 5900. The initial VNC password is the EC2 instance ID (e.g., i-950f5643)

For RDP connections, use your favorite RDP client software (e.g., Windows Remote Desktop Connection, or Linux rdesktop), and connect to the instance public IP address.

Please don't connect to the same user with different connections. Specifically, user "ubuntu" is by default logged in over VNC, connect again over RDP will fail. Please create additional new users to connect over RDP.

If you like to configure your own firewall instead of using the default one, please open the following TCP ports: 22, 80, 443, 3389, 5900. For more usage tips, refer to the support forum, https://netspectrum.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=3

Works well, but recently the RealVNC client started dropping connections upon tab switch

Worked great for three years. Recently, however the only client that worked perfectly, RealVNC has begun dropping VNC connections when the active client was minimized. Seems to be a RealVNC issue. I was using the free version of RealVNC, and perhaps the paid version works.

    Works perfectly

Ignore the other review about this not working correctly due to firewall issues - this AMI functions perfectly - just make sure you security group is allowing the appropriate ports and you're good to go.

Saves a lot of time scripting together my own VNC desktop!

    Not Mad, Just Disappointed

Nope, does not work as documented.

Followed their docs to the letter. Tried VNC (two different versions) and RDP. Looks like a firewall issue and I do not have the time to troubleshoot their offering; will build my own in the time it takes to fix this broken template. Word to you guys; more complete docs are needed. I have been using the VNC server and clients for years, so I know the issue was not on my end.

    Great VNC implementation!
