Tungsten Replicator for Postgres Targets is a replication engine that provides high-performance and improved replication functionality into PostgreSQL. It is designed to be used in conjunction with the "Tungsten Replicator for MySQL Extraction" AMI to provide a full end-to-end, real-time, data replication pipeline.
Alternatively, it is also available as a stand-alone, commercial product with support that can be downloaded from the Continuent website with a valid customer agreement.
What does Tungsten Replicator do?
Tungsten Replicator provides data replication from MySQL, MariaDB & Percona Server, including Amazon RDS MySQL and Amazon Aurora, to high-performance data analytics engines to derive insight from big data for better business decisions.
More specifically, it supports real-time data replication into MySQL (all versions), Oracle, PostgreSQL, AWS RedShift, Hadoop, MongoDB, Kafka and Vertica. We have an AMI for each of these targets available here on AWS.
This AMI supports replication into PostgreSQL only (Including RDS Postgres).
Who typically uses Tungsten Replicator?
Tungsten Replicator customers are typically SaaS, e-commerce, financial services, gaming and telco companies who rely on MySQL, MariaDB, Percona Server (and Continuent) to cost-effectively safeguard billions of dollars annual revenue.
Highlights

Try this product free for 14 days according to the free trial terms set by the vendor. Usage-based pricing is in effect for usage beyond the free trial terms. Your free trial gets automatically converted to a paid subscription when the trial ends, but may be canceled any time before that.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay by the hour for each running instance of the Tungsten Replicator for PostgreSQL Appliers. Pricing is tied to the EC2 instance type you choose, not to a software tier or node count. The list spans general-purpose families like T2, T3, T3a, M3, M4, and M5 variants. Smaller instances such as t2.small or m5d.large carry lower hourly rates, while larger ones like m5.24xlarge or m5.metal cost more per hour. Your total depends on which instance sizes you select and how many hours you run them.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hour of billing represent for each instance type listed?
One hour represents one running EC2 instance of the chosen type. The software meters each instance by the hour it runs. If you run several instances at once, each one bills separately. Larger instance families carry higher hourly software rates than smaller ones.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or paused?
Software charges apply only while an instance runs. Stopped instances stop accruing hourly software fees. You may still pay underlying AWS storage costs for attached volumes, but the appliers software meters active running time only.
Where does the Tungsten Replicator software run, and who manages my data?
The software deploys inside your own AWS environment on the EC2 instance you select. Continuent does not host it or access your data. You keep your database data; the software helps replicate it between systems.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
By default, the AMI will launch with a 40Gb partition assigned to /opt/continuent. The software and associated logs will be generated here, therefore you should review the required storage space for this partition based on your activity levels. You should account for, at least the same amount of space used by your binary logs within the retention period of your source database.
Upon launch, connect to the host as the rocky using your preferred choice of Terminal application.
Issue the following command 'sudo su - tungsten' and the launch and setup wizard will automatically commence.
