You pay by the hour based on the AWS EC2 instance type you run this software on. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size, from small general-purpose types like t3.medium up to large compute, memory, and storage-optimized types like c5.24xlarge and m5d.metal. The hourly rate scales with the instance's capacity, so pricing follows the compute resources you choose. There are no separate tiers or feature levels. You select the instance that fits your database clustering workload, and billing accrues for the hours each instance runs.

What do I get with the software running on an EC2 instance like m5.large or c5.xlarge?
You get a database clustering solution for MySQL that provides high availability, disaster recovery, and read scaling. It includes cluster management, real-time replication, an intelligent proxy for failover and load balancing, and a web-based monitoring interface. The instance size you pick sets the compute capacity for these components.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped, for example a standby disaster recovery node?
Hourly charges apply only while the instance runs. A fully stopped instance does not accrue software charges. Note that passive disaster recovery nodes and standby sites remain available for read traffic and failover, so they typically stay running and accrue hourly charges while active.
How does the hourly billing scale as I add more instances or nodes to my cluster?
Each running instance bills independently at its own hourly rate based on its type. A three-node cluster runs three instances, so charges add up across all of them. There is no volume threshold in this hourly model. Cost tracks the total hours across every instance you run.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Once the cluster is running, you will be able to connect to the Dashboard by using the Public DNS/IP of any of the hosts in your choice of internet browser, and when prompted entering the username 'tungsten' and the password you supplied during node configuration.
