Overview
The purpose of assessing an application is to find suitability for a target cloud platform, disposition or migration pattern and identify modernization opportunities. Modernization of applications may include various possibilities including moving the application to a cloud platform, refactoring the application to adopt various modern architecture patterns including loosely coupled components, and ability to horizontally scale.
A typical application portfolio assessment process requires an understanding of the challenges associated with the portfolio of services provided. It further requires insights into the various characteristics of an application and exploring the business value, potential risk and technical fitness of an application for movement. An assessment may identify the potential modernization opportunities including migration as is, refactoring, and replacing the application.
The assessment service using an application assists an organization to manage assessment questions and gather responses for various characteristics of an application. Examples include application architecture, roadmap, operating system and database details. The responses can be used to assess and explore modernization opportunities.
