ECS is a fully managed container orchestration service from AWS that makes it easy for you to deploy, manage, and scale containerized applications. Containers are defined using task definitions and run as services across a fleet of Amazon EC2 instances. ECS can automatically scale up your applications to meet a spike in demand or scale down when demand is less all leading to cost-effective operations in the cloud.
Underneath this robust container orchestration solution from AWS is Docker, an industry-standard container runtime engine as well as the ECS-Agent that is responsible for scheduling services across your clusters.
This listing bundles this robust orchestration solution together with Ubuntu, a rock-solid Linux Operating System into a single 1-Click deploy Optimized AMI.

AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay by the hour for this ECS-optimized Ubuntu 20.04 image with vendor support. Pricing is tied to the EC2 instance type you run. The listing covers many instance families, including general-purpose (m, t), compute-optimized (c), memory-optimized (r), storage-optimized (d, i), and accelerated computing (g, inf, dl) options. Within each family, hourly rates scale with instance size, from smaller sizes up to larger multi-xlarge and metal variants. You choose the instance type that fits your workload, and billing accrues only for the hours each instance runs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover for a given instance type?
One unit is one running instance of the chosen EC2 type, billed per hour. The software charge for the Ubuntu 20.04 image and vendor support is tied to that instance type. Each running instance accrues its own hourly charge. Running more instances of the same type multiplies the hourly charge.
Am I charged for an instance that is stopped or powered off?
The software charge meters running hours only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. Underlying AWS resources, such as attached storage, may still incur separate AWS fees while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
What kind of support comes with this image, and is it guaranteed?
The listing bundles vendor support with the ECS-optimized Ubuntu 20.04 image. Per the vendor's license terms, support and updates are provided at the vendor's discretion and subject to availability, not as a fixed obligation. Contact the vendor to confirm scope and response expectations for your use.
