You pay by the hour for PostgreSQL running on Ubuntu 24, with the rate set by the EC2 instance type you choose. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size, so pricing scales with the compute, memory, storage, or accelerator capacity you select. General-purpose (t and m families), compute-optimized (c families), memory-optimized (r and x families), storage-optimized (d and i families), and accelerated (g, p, inf, trn families) options are all available. Smaller instances cost less per hour; larger and specialized instances cost more. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs.

Each unit is one running EC2 instance of the type you select, billed per hour. The rate covers the PostgreSQL software preinstalled on Ubuntu 24 for that instance. Instance size determines the CPU, memory, storage, and any accelerator capacity you receive.
Software charges accrue only while an instance runs. A stopped or paused instance stops the hourly software charge. Underlying AWS storage for attached volumes may still bill separately through AWS. The software meter counts running hours only.
Your rate is tied to the instance type running at any moment. If you launch a larger type, the higher hourly rate applies for those hours. Switching to a smaller type lowers the rate for its running hours. No commitment locks you to one type.

- Use the public IP of your instance and log in as the 'ubuntu' user, using the private key you specified during instance launch.
2. Run OS commands via SSH:
- After logging in, use sudo to run any commands that require root access.
3. Verify PostgreSQL installation:
- To check the installed version of PostgreSQL, run the following command: sudo -u postgres psql -c "SELECT version();"
This will display the version of PostgreSQL installed on your instance.
