CDN with WebP Caching

CDN with WebP Caching is an AWS-based solution that helps organizations improve website performance, reduce bandwidth usage, and lower data transfer costs by automatically converting and caching images in WebP format. The solution works as a lightweight overlay on top of an existing website or application, minimizing implementation effort while improving image delivery efficiency.

Built on AWS’s scalable and durable infrastructure, the service enables customers to introduce modern image optimization without large changes to the application itself, while also creating a strong foundation for additional performance-related improvements.

Our solution provides a modern CDN-based mechanism for automatic image conversion, caching, and optimized delivery. It works by introducing an additional domain (such as a static asset domain) through which images and static resources are served.

The service includes:

• Automatic Browser Capability Detection: Automatically detects whether the client browser supports WebP and serves the optimal format.
• Transparent Image Conversion: Converts images to WebP on-the-fly from the original source without requiring application-level logic.
• Configurable Cache Layer: Caches generated assets for a configurable duration to maximize delivery speed and eliminate repeated processing.
• CDN-Based Asset Delivery: Serves static files through a global edge layer to boost speed and offload the origin application.
• Modern Compression Support: Includes additional compression standards such as Brotli and Gzip.
• Extensible Media Optimization: Platform foundation can be extended for on-the-fly thumbnail generation and progressive JPEG optimizations.

Implementation requires minimal customer-side changes—typically just updating the URL pointing to static media assets.

The solution utilizes AWS native services for edge delivery, serverless transformation, and storage, including:
