Larger instance sizes carry proportionally higher hourly rates because they provide more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware. You get a pre-configured WordPress install on Ubuntu 24, hardened with a firewall and network protocols. The hourly rate covers the software running on the EC2 instance size you select. It includes updates and security settings maintained by the vendor.
The software fee meters running time only. A stopped or powered-off instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. You may still incur separate AWS storage fees for the attached disk while the instance is stopped. Software billing resumes when the instance runs again.
You pay one hourly software rate tied to the instance type running. Switching to a larger size raises the hourly rate; switching smaller lowers it. The change applies from the hour the new instance runs. Separate AWS infrastructure charges also scale with the instance size.
