Who this is for:
Teams that need a remediated, evidence-backed baseline for regulated workloads - the OpenSCAP score and audit artifacts your assessors can review without re-scanning from scratch on day one.
What you get (StigReady Applied tier):
StigReady Base partition layout plus CIS Benchmark aligned Level 2 remediation (StigForge roles)
Scored in the build against the raw, unmodified SSG CIS Benchmark Level 2 Server profile
The published score counts every documented exemption as a failure. Boot loader, root and sudo password rules fail until you run sudo stigready-set-credentials (AWS Marketplace does not allow these passwords in an AMI). Rules that do not apply to a cloud AMI (for example remote log offload and smartcard/CAC) are listed with a POA&M entry and the customer action in the evidence bundle.

Getting started:
Subscribe and launch in EC2 with your SSH key.
Connect as ec2-user; restrict security group TCP/22 to trusted IPs.
AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay an hourly software fee per running instance, billed on top of your EC2 costs. The 17 dimensions map to specific EC2 instance types, so your rate follows the size and family you choose. The t3 line covers burstable sizes from micro through 2xlarge. The m5 and m6i lines cover general-purpose large through 4xlarge sizes. The c5 line covers compute-focused large and xlarge sizes, and the r5 line covers memory-focused large and xlarge sizes. You select one matching instance type and pay only while it runs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the hourly software fee cover beyond the hardened operating system?
Each image ships with an evidence bundle: an OpenSCAP ARF file, an HTML report, a POA&M, an SBOM, and a CVE scan. These are scored in-build against the raw security profile. The images apply CIS Benchmark Level 2 remediation aligned to Rocky 8, so your auditor gets the compliance number with every image.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or powered off?
The software fee meters per running instance-hour. A stopped or powered-off instance does not accrue the hourly software fee. You still pay for the underlying EC2 resources and any attached storage per AWS terms. The software charge applies only while the instance runs.
Does the hourly rate change if I resize to a larger instance type?
Yes. Each of the 17 dimensions maps to one EC2 instance type, and the hourly software rate follows the type you run. Resizing to a different family or size means you pay that type's rate while it runs. You are billed per instance, so running several instances stacks the fees.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

Usage instructions
Subscribe in AWS Marketplace, then launch in EC2 with your SSH key pair. Connect via SSH as ec2-user. The recommended security group allows SSH (TCP 22) from 0.0.0.0/0; narrow it to your admin network's IP range when you launch. This AMI requires IMDSv2-compatible instance metadata settings at launch. Documentation: https://stigready.com/applied. Download the per-version evidence bundle (OpenSCAP reports, POA&M, SBOM, CVE scan) from the URL in Support below. To meet the STIG/CIS boot loader, root and sudo password requirements on your instance, run sudo stigready-set-credentials after first login (AWS Marketplace policy does not allow these passwords to ship in the AMI).
