Migrate VMware workloads to AWS with expert guidance, proven migration frameworks, and best practices designed to ensure a secure and stable cloud transition.

    Overview

Organizations running VMware environments often face challenges when planning a transition to AWS. This service helps organizations migrate their VMware infrastructure to AWS while ensuring a stable, secure, and scalable cloud environment.

The engagement focuses on planning and executing a structured VMware-to-AWS migration strategy. Through expert guidance and migration best practices, organizations can successfully move workloads while minimizing operational disruption. The service supports organizations in designing their AWS environment and preparing their workloads for long-term cloud operations.

    Key features include:

    • VMware workload discovery and migration planning
    • Migration strategy design for transitioning VMware environments to AWS
    • Cloud environment design aligned to AWS best practices
    • Migration execution guidance and workload transition support
    • Planning for ongoing cloud management after migration

What it Solves Many organizations rely on VMware environments that can become costly or difficult to scale. Migrating these workloads to AWS allows organizations to modernize infrastructure, improve scalability, and reduce operational complexity while maintaining stability during the transition.

    Service Outcomes

    • A structured plan for migrating VMware workloads to AWS
    • Reduced risk during infrastructure migration
    • Improved scalability and operational flexibility
    • AWS environment designed using cloud best practices
    • Foundation for long-term cloud operations and modernization

    FAQS

What is included in the Migrate to AWS from VMware service?

Discovery and assessment of your VMware environment, migration planning and wave design, AWS landing zone, VPC and network connectivity prerequisites (as needed), migration execution (rehost or replatform where appropriate), validation and testing, and post migration recommendations for optimization.

    Who should use this service?

Organizations running VMware on-premises or in a co-location facility who want to reduce data center footprint and control VMWare relicensing costs, accelerate cloud adoption, improve resiliency, or prepare for a broader modernization program on AWS.

How long does the engagement take?

Timelines vary based on number of servers, dependencies, and required security/compliance controls. Typical engagements range from 4 to 12 weeks, with timelines finalized after the initial assessment phase.

Can the migration approach be tailored to specific environments or compliance requirements?

Yes. We align the target architecture and controls to your requirements (e.g., encryption, logging, retention, segmentation, IAM, and evidence collection) and can adapt deliverables to common security frameworks.

Support is provided via scheduled working sessions during delivery, progress reporting, and email/Teams communication for questions and requirements gathering.

Common services utilized for the migration include Amazon EC2, Amazon EBS, Amazon S3, Elastic Load Balancing, Amazon VPC, AWS IAM, and AWS Backup. Tooling may include AWS Application Migration Service (MGN), AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery, AWS Migration Hub, and AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) depending on workload needs.

We design migration waves with cutover plans and maintenance windows, aiming to minimize disruption. Depending on workload characteristics, we can use replication-based approaches to reduce downtime and validate workloads in AWS before final cutover.

If you do not already have one, we can design and implement foundational components such as account structure, VPC/networking, IAM guardrails, logging/monitoring, and backup standards. If you have an existing landing zone, we validate fit and adjust the migration plan accordingly.

At closeout, we provide knowledge transfer and documentation. Ongoing managed services or extended support can be offered under a separate agreement
