Launch a self hosted Kong API Gateway and AI Gateway on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS with Docker Compose, PostgreSQL, a public IP landing page, a working demo route, and an AI Gateway starter helper for OpenAI compatible traffic. Built for developers and teams that want fast API routing, testing, and AI gateway workflows inside their own AWS account. This product has charges associated with it for the provision and deployment of the application and AMI support.
Kong API Gateway and AI Gateway packaged by Code Creator is a ready to launch AWS Marketplace AMI designed for developers, platform teams, SaaS builders, and technical organizations that want a self hosted API gateway running directly inside their own AWS account.
This product provides a modern Kong community edition deployment on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS using Docker Compose and PostgreSQL. It includes a public IP landing page, first boot IP automation, a working demo API route, and customer friendly helper commands for status checks, logs, restart, backup, configuration export, and AI gateway setup.
The AMI includes an AI Gateway starter workflow using Kongs bundled AI Proxy plugin. Customers can configure an OpenAI compatible AI proxy route after launch using their own provider API key. No AI provider key is bundled with the AMI.
For security, Kong proxy traffic is available publicly on the recommended gateway ports, while the Kong Admin API is restricted to localhost by default. Customers can manage the gateway through SSH, local helper commands, and optional SSH tunneling to the local Admin API.
This product is useful for API routing, gateway testing, internal API mediation, microservices traffic management, AI traffic proxy workflows, development environments, staging environments, and self hosted gateway deployments inside AWS.

You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance size you run. All nine dimensions deliver the same API Gateway and AI Gateway software; they differ only by compute capacity. Two families are offered: t3 instances (medium, large, xlarge, 2xlarge) and m6i instances (large, 2xlarge, 4xlarge, 8xlarge, 12xlarge). Larger sizes provide more CPU and memory for higher API traffic. Your cost scales with the size you select and the number of hours it runs. Choose the size that matches your expected workload.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hour of billing represent for these instance dimensions?
Each dimension bills per hour that one EC2 instance of that size runs. You pay for actual running time. A t3.large charge covers one t3.large instance for one hour. Running multiple instances multiplies the hourly charge by the number of instances active.
Am I charged for the software when my instance is stopped?
The hourly software charge applies only while the instance runs. Stopped or powered-off instances do not accrue software charges. You may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for stopped instances, but the software meter tracks running hours only.
Do the AI Gateway features cost extra beyond the hourly instance charge?
The AI Gateway capabilities run as plugins on top of the same gateway software. All nine dimensions include the same software. You pay only the hourly rate for your chosen instance size. Enabling AI plugins does not add a separate pricing dimension here.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
