Document essential statistics, assess missing and unreferenced files, and receive a complimentary risk assessment tailored to your application.
AveriSource Scan helps organizations quickly and accurately scope, budget, and plan for both maintaining and modernizing legacy applications. Legacy applications are often poorly documented, having passed through countless systems teams and development hands across years or decades. Additionally, the complexity and interconnectedness of these legacy systems are frequently underestimated.
Leveraging the scalable and secure AWS infrastructure, AveriSource Scan provides a fast and accurate way to mitigate and manage these uncertainties by documenting essential statistics, assessing missing and unreferenced files, and providing a risk assessment. Use AveriSource Insight to understand the characteristics of source code, flag problem areas, and choose the optimal modernization strategy.
AveriSource Scan assesses your provided codebase, deeply analyzing COBOL, RPG, JCL, and Assembler languages. Other languages are detected using file extensions but are not assessed for risk. If you want to assess other languages, we recommend contacting us at hello@averisource.com to explore additional options.
AveriSource Scan may be used for a total of 14 days from the time it is first accessed. The generated reports can be used indefinitely. For additional usage, contact hello@averisource.com.
Highlights
Comprehensive Source Code Analysis - Captures and documents important statistics about the application including size and technology mix.
Risk Assessment - Identifies and assesses multiple risk factors in the source code, providing guidance on severity and next steps.
Optimized Modernization Planning - Calculates the estimated number of hours required for manual modernization, allowing organizations to strategically select optimal candidates and tailor the most effective approach for each application.

AveriSource Scan is free software, so you pay no license fee. You choose one of three AWS EC2 instance types to run it: t3a.xlarge, m4.xlarge, or m4.2xlarge, each billed by the hour. These options differ only in compute size, letting you match the instance to your codebase and workload. Scan analyzes your source code locally and generates a report in minutes, so hourly infrastructure use is typically brief. The instance you pick sets your hourly rate; larger sizes carry more CPU and memory for bigger scans.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do the three instance types actually differ in for running Scan?
They differ in compute size. t3a.xlarge and m4.xlarge give you four virtual CPUs, while m4.2xlarge gives you eight. More CPU and memory help process larger codebases. Each type is billed by the hour, so you pick the size that matches your source code volume.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped after the scan finishes?
Hourly software charges apply while the instance runs. Scan analyzes code and generates a report in minutes, so active time is usually brief. Stopping the instance ends software metering, but AWS may still charge for attached storage while the instance stays provisioned.
What am I paying for if the Scan software itself is free?
The software carries no license fee. Your hourly charge covers the AWS EC2 compute you choose to run it. You pick one instance type, and its size sets your hourly rate. Larger sizes cost more per hour but offer more CPU and memory for bigger scans.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
