The school database represents more than 124,000 entities serving students’ educational needs in grades PK-12 across the US. Firmographic information allows segmentation and analysis of these data.
Overview
The MCH school database includes institutional and firmographic data on US education PK12 institutions for students in grades pre-kindergarten through twelfth. This dataset includes childcare centers that are legal entities of school districts, in additon to all K12 schools and districts. There are three primary designations of schools: Private, Public and Catholic. "Private" schools are those whose primary income is not from public sources; they rely on tuition and donations for their operation. "Public" schools are defined as schools that rely on public tax-based funding. "Catholic" schools are private schools operated by the Catholic church umbrella. Catholic Schools are not duplicated in the Private school group.
The file includes PK12 schools as defined by the State Education Agency (SEA) and National Center of Education Statistics (NCES) standards and most represent "traditional" facilities in which regular classes are not held in the summer months.
Updating the PK12 data at MCH is an ongoing year-round effort and includes adding new, removing old and updating existing records.
Schools and the governing entity they report to (i.e., District, Diocese) are linked through parent-child relationships.
