Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for a hardened Ubuntu 20.04 image, with vendor support included. Pricing is usage-based, so you are charged only for the hours each instance runs. The many dimensions are not tiers or feature levels. Instead, each one maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type, such as general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, GPU, and high-memory families. Your hourly software rate scales with the instance size and family you select. Larger instances carry higher hourly rates. You choose the instance type that fits your workload and pay the matching rate.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
One unit is one running EC2 instance of the selected type, billed per hour it runs. The rate covers the hardened Ubuntu 20.04 software licence and vendor support for that instance. Each running instance meters separately, so five running instances bill five hourly rates.
The software rate applies only while an instance runs. Stopped or powered-off instances do not accrue the hourly software charge. Note that underlying AWS storage fees for the attached volumes may still apply separately, since those are billed by AWS, not by this software licence.
Each option maps to one AWS EC2 instance type across families like general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, and GPU. They are not feature tiers. Your hourly software rate is tied to the instance you launch, and larger instances within a family carry higher hourly rates.
