OpenFOAM is an open-source CFD simulation engine with additional charges for configuration, automation, and technical support. This solution is available in two versions GPU-accelerated and CPU-optimized both supporting CLI and GUI workflows with high-performance solvers, MPI integration, and remote access via Amazon DCV for engineering and scientific simulations.

    Overview

OPENFOAM HPC Enterprise Solutions ,a repackaged open source CFD platform, delivers a fully optimized simulation environment on AWS with additional charges applied for configuration, automation, and support. The product is offered in two distinct editions to match different computational needs: GPU Edition: Includes GPU enabled OpenFOAM with NVIDIA drivers, CUDA support,OpenMPI and accelerated solvers for high performance CFD workloads, especially benefiting pressure dominated cases such as incompressible flows, pressure velocity coupling, and turbulent pressure driven simulations. CPU Edition: Optimized for AWS compute instances without GPU, offering reliable parallel performance with OpenMPI and multicore processing. Both versions support command line execution (CLI) for power users and GUI access through a lightweight desktop environment integrated with Amazon DCV for secure, low latency remote sessions. This enables users to run, monitor, and visualize CFD simulations from anywhere. PETSc Enhanced Solver Capabilities: Integrated PETSc libraries provide advanced linear algebra routines for improved solver stability, faster convergence, and enhanced performance in large-scale pressure-dominated CFD cases. SimFlow Compatibility for Case Management: Fully compatible with SimFlow, enabling users to import, configure, and manage OpenFOAM cases through an external GUI based workflow tool for easier pre-processing and model setup. ParaView Support for Post Processing: Supports ParaView based post processing for high-quality visualization of simulation results, including pressure fields, velocity contours, turbulence structures, and volume rendering directly within the HPC environment.

    Highlights

    • CLI Support: Enables direct command-line access for running solvers, automation scripts, batch jobs, and HPC workflows. GUI Support : Provides a clean, optimized GUI environment suitable for case preparation, file management, and post-processing. The GUI mode is limited to approximately 200,000 mesh cells and one cpu support ; for larger GUI-based visualizations, an additional license from the respective organization is required.
    • Automation Scripts: Includes pre-configured scripts for user setup, environment initialization, and solver execution across GPU or CPU instances.
    • Complete Documentation: Step-by-step guides covering instance deployment, GPU/CPU usage, CLI and GUI access, and advanced CFD workflow tutorials.

    Delivery details

    Openfoam-GPU

This delivery option launches the OpenFOAM High-Performance Computing (HPC) stack on AWS using a GPU-optimized EC2 AMI.

GPU Stack: Optimized for NVIDIA GPU-enabled instances (e.g., g4dn.xlarge) to accelerate large-scale computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. Includes pre-installed GPU drivers, CUDA libraries, and OpenFOAM configurations for maximum performance. Upon deployment, the EC2 instance is automatically configured and accessible via secure HTTPS on port 8443. Users can SSH into the instance using their key pair for advanced configuration.

    CloudFormation Template (CFT)

AWS CloudFormation templates are JSON or YAML-formatted text files that simplify provisioning and management on AWS. The templates describe the service or application architecture you want to deploy, and AWS CloudFormation uses those templates to provision and configure the required services (such as Amazon EC2 instances or Amazon RDS DB instances). The deployed application and associated resources are called a "stack."
