    Overview

This product has charges associated with it for enterprise pre-configuration, continuous patch updates, system hardening, and optimized base image engineering. Powered by Windows Server Core (headless/no desktop experience), this AMI delivers a minimal attack surface, ultra-low resource footprint, and maximum security for enterprise workloads, database hosts, and automated backend infrastructure.

Engineered for high performance and compliance on AWS EC2, the image comes pre-patched with the latest Microsoft cumulative updates and is regularly refreshed using automated CI/CD pipelines and strict quality control standards. By removing the Graphical User Interface (GUI), this lean Core edition significantly reduces CPU/RAM usage and maintenance overhead while ensuring predictable, consistent performance across all AWS regions.

Optimized to reduce ongoing infrastructure costs, this AMI features a compact 30 GB minimum root volume and an expanded 2 GB EFI System Partition (ESP), with legacy recovery partitions removed. Built for remote management out of the box, key pre-installed environments include .NET 3.5/4.x, AWS SSM Agent, EC2Launch, CloudFormation bootstrap tools, AWS Tools for PowerShell, and official ENA/NVMe drivers.

Eliminate the operational burden of manual image building and monthly patch validation. Built for global and localized engineering teams, the image provides native system locale and language support (Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and English) for command-line and management interfaces-delivering a secure, highly efficient, and cost-effective base for your cloud infrastructure.

    Highlights

    Dimensions summary

You pay by the hour for Windows Server 2025 Standard Core running on your chosen EC2 instance type. Each dimension maps to one instance type, so pricing scales with the compute you select. Options range from small general-purpose instances to large memory-, compute-, storage-, and accelerator-focused instances, including bare-metal and high-memory configurations. Larger instances with more vCPUs, memory, or GPUs bill at higher hourly rates. You are not locked into a term or fixed quantity; you run instances as needed and stop paying when you stop them. The default display language is Simplified Chinese.

    Top-of-mind questions for buyers

Each unit is one running EC2 instance of the type named in that dimension, billed per hour. The rate bundles the Windows Server 2025 Standard Core software licence together with the compute you select. You pay for each instance-hour while the instance runs.
The hourly software charge meters running time only. When you stop an instance, the software fee stops accruing. Underlying AWS storage and other AWS resources may still incur their own charges while the instance is stopped, but those are separate from this listing's software rate.
Language choice does not change the hourly rate. The image ships with Simplified Chinese as the default display language. You can switch the operating system to English during first boot using a user-data script. The extra reboot slightly lengthens initial startup time.

    Amazon Machine Image (AMI)

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.

    Version release notes
    1. Updated with the latest security patches (KB5129235).
    2. Starting with this version, a standalone WinRE partition is no longer created.
    3. Migrated to Windows Server 2025 Standard Edition Server Core (zh-CN) starting with this release.

    Additional details

    Usage instructions

Note: For all Avora Windows AMI products, the default login username is Administrator.

    Remote Desktop Connection

    What to expect

    • First boot time: the instance may take 5-10 minutes to finish initialization before RDP is available.
    • How to connect: use Windows Remote Desktop (mstsc) or another RDP client, open the .rdp file from the EC2 console, and sign in with the Administrator account and the decrypted password.
    • Security: ensure the instance security group allows RDP (TCP 3389) or use a secure bastion/jump host. Use the EC2 console to decrypt the initial Administrator password.

    Official guide: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/zh_cn/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/connect-rdp.html

Session Manager via AWS Systems Manager

    When to use

    • Use Session Manager when you prefer not to open RDP to the internet or when you need command-line/PowerShell access from the AWS console or CLI.

    Requirements and notes

    • The instance must have an IAM role with the required SSM permissions.
    • Start a session from the Systems Manager Session Manager console or from the EC2 console's Connect option.

    Official guide: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/zh_cn/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/connect-with-systems-manager-session-manager.html

Start the Instance in English Using User Data

    Purpose and impact

    • To change the OS language to English (en-US) at first boot, provide a PowerShell script as user data when launching the instance. This change triggers an additional system restart and increases initialization time.

    PowerShell user data example

    • <powershell>
    • $Language = "en-US"
    • Set-WinSystemLocale -SystemLocale $Language
    • Set-WinUserLanguageList -LanguageList $Language -Force
    • Set-WinUILanguageOverride -Language $Language
    • Set-Culture -CultureInfo $Language
    • Set-WinHomeLocation -GeoId 244
    • Restart-Computer
    • </powershell>

    How to supply user data

    • Paste the script into the User data field when launching the instance in the EC2 console. Because the script restarts the machine, expect a longer first-boot time.
