Security Architecture
All traffic between your machine and the Lambda MicroVM flows through a WebSocket Secure (WSS) tunnel using TLS encryption. Inside the MicroVM, a SOCKS5 proxy (microsocks) routes your TCP traffic to the internet via AWS default egress - no VPC or NAT Gateway needed.
Ephemeral by design: When you disconnect, the MicroVM terminates completely. No logs, DNS queries, session artifacts, or traffic data persist after termination. All data stays within your own AWS account - Waltsoft never sees or stores your traffic.
CloudTrail auditable: All Lambda MicroVM invocations are logged in your AWS CloudTrail, providing enterprise-grade audit trails under your control.

Subscribe and deploy the CloudFormation template in your AWS account
Download vpn.sh and install wstunnel (one-time setup, ~5 min)
Run ./vpn.sh start - all traffic routes through AWS (~20s cold start)

What does one VPN Subscription unit cover, and what is billed separately?
One unit is the monthly software license for the VPN. It covers the software only. It does not cover the MicroVM compute or data transfer. You pay AWS directly for the running instance and standard egress in your own account.
Am I charged for compute when I disconnect the VPN?
No compute charges accrue while disconnected. The MicroVM fully terminates when you run stop, so nothing runs and no AWS compute or storage fees apply. A fresh instance launches on your next start, in about 20 seconds. The monthly software license stays flat regardless.
How does the AWS compute cost behave as I use the VPN more?
AWS compute bills per second while connected, using a 1 vCPU, 2GB ARM MicroVM. Costs rise with connected time, since the instance ends on disconnect. Data transfer bills at standard AWS egress rates. Sessions run up to 8 hours and auto-reconnect. The software license does not change with usage.
