What does one hourly unit cover, and what am I paying SUSE for versus AWS?
Each unit is one running arm64 EC2 instance of the family and size you pick, charged per hour. The rate covers the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server operating system with PHP and its support. AWS charges the underlying compute, storage, and network separately on your same bill.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or paused?
The software rate meters running time only. A stopped or fully powered-off instance does not accrue SUSE charges. You are billed per hour while the instance runs. Note that AWS may still charge for attached storage on stopped instances, but that is separate from this software rate.
How do I decide which instance family to pick, and how does that change my rate?
Rates track the instance family and size you choose. Compute-focused (c), general-purpose (m), memory-focused (r), and storage-focused (i) families suit different workloads. Burstable (t4g) sizes fit light or variable use. Larger sizes, up to 48xlarge and bare metal, cost more per hour than smaller ones.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Use the image to start an instance of your choice in Amazon EC2. Once the instance is running connect to it using a Secure Shell (SSH) client as 'ec2-user' and the configured SSH key. You may connect the instance to the SUSE Customer Center (SCC) or the region local SUSE operated update infrastructure using your existing SUSE registration key. Use 'SUSEConnect -r' or 'registercloudguest -r', respectively to enable your instance to receive maintenance updates and security fixes.
In order to provide you with support for your PHP on SLES instance, you need to first generate and upload your instance's supportconfig file. See the Marketplace Support Page in SUSE Customer Center for more information on how to create a supportconfig file and follow the prompts.
