DNS Server - BIND DNS with Webmin on Ubuntu 24.04
BIND9 is a flexible and full-featured DNS software widely used on Unix/Linux due to its stability and high quality performance.
The perfect solution for providing DNS resolution to your servers in AWS and clients on prem or in the cloud. This Ubuntu server also comes with Webmin GUI allowing you to manage your server via the servers web portal, making it easier to manage DNS via a GUI. You can also manage DNS via the SSH terminal.
BIND can act as an authoritative DNS server for a zone and a DNS resolver at the same time. A DNS resolver can also be called a recursive name server because it performs recursive lookups for local clients

Dimensions summary
You pay by the hour for the software running on your chosen EC2 instance type. Each dimension maps to a specific AWS instance size, from small shared instances to large compute, memory, storage, or GPU-optimized machines. The software price stays tied to the instance you select, so cost scales with the compute capacity you pick. Larger or more specialized instances carry higher hourly rates. You choose one instance type to match your DNS server's expected workload. AWS infrastructure charges apply separately from this hourly software fee.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
Each dimension maps to one AWS EC2 instance type running the DNS software. The hourly rate covers the software licence for that specific instance size. You are billed for each hour the instance runs. Instance families differ by CPU, memory, storage, and GPU, which is why hourly rates vary between them.
The hourly software fee meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue software charges. Note that AWS may still bill separately for attached storage while the instance is stopped. Software charges resume once you start the instance again.
The image runs BIND9 DNS on Ubuntu 24.04 and comes with Webmin preinstalled. Webmin gives you a web portal to manage and configure DNS zones through a graphical interface instead of only the command line. This is included at every instance type; only the instance size changes the hourly rate.

What do you like best about the product?
Everything we can handle via cmdline. Very easy to handle. Everything based on files based. Easy handle.
What do you dislike about the product?
Cmdline interface is sometimes seems to complicate for beginners. There is no GUI . May be It is difficult to handle for beginners.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
There is no need to buy windows license and configure DNS . Easy install single line installation and configuration. It is cost effective.
