Each hourly rate covers a running instance of Windows Server 2019 with SQL Server 2017 Enterprise and the Database Auditor tool preinstalled. One dimension equals one EC2 instance size. You pay the software rate plus separate AWS infrastructure charges for that instance while it runs.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or powered off?
The software rate meters running hours only. A stopped or powered-off instance does not accrue software charges. You may still pay AWS for attached storage and other resources that persist while the instance is stopped, but the software licence tracks active running time.
How does my bill change if I move to a larger instance type?
You pay the hourly rate tied to whichever instance size runs the software. Larger sizes such as metal or multi-terabyte types carry higher hourly rates than small sizes like t3.nano. Switching instances changes the rate going forward; there is no upfront commitment and billing tracks the running hours.

1. Getting Started with Windows on AWS

2. Logging in as Administrator
To log in to your AWS Windows instance as an Administrator, follow these steps:
Use the private key (.pem) file you generated when you created your EC2 instance to decrypt the Administrator password.
After obtaining the password, you can use it to log in to your Windows instance through Remote Desktop (RDP).
3. Launch SQL Server
To open SQL Server, go to the Start Menu and search for SQL Server, then select SQL Server 2017 Configuration Manager. SQL Server 2017 will be launched.
