Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Version release notes
Initial release of OpenVPN Community Edition by Meyi Cloud. This version includes OpenVPN Community Edition, Easy-RSA, and all required dependencies preinstalled. The AMI uses secure first-time initialization through the openvpn-init script to generate unique certificates, configure the VPN server, enable IP forwarding and NAT, and create a client configuration profile for secure remote access.
Additional details
Usage instructions
Launch an Amazon EC2 instance using this AMI. Configure the Security Group to allow TCP port 22 (SSH) and UDP port 1194 (OpenVPN). Connect to the instance using SSH with the default user "ubuntu". Run the command "sudo openvpn-init" to initialize the VPN server. The initialization process automatically generates a unique Certificate Authority (CA), server and client certificates, configures OpenVPN, enables IP forwarding and NAT, starts the OpenVPN service, and creates the client configuration file at /home/ubuntu/client.ovpn. Download the client.ovpn file to your local computer and import it into the OpenVPN Connect client to establish a secure VPN connection. Run the initialization command only once for each deployed instance. Each deployment generates unique certificates and encryption keys to ensure a secure VPN environment.
