Overview
FreePBX v17 for AWS is a production focused cloud PBX appliance engineered by experienced VoIP professionals who understand the real world problems that commonly affect hosted phone systems. This image is designed to simplify deployment, reduce operational headaches, and provide a stable, reliable FreePBX experience in AWS environments, even on smaller EC2 instance types. Unlike generic PBX images, this system includes operational enhancements specifically designed around the challenges of running telephony infrastructure in the cloud. Key Features Automatic IP and hostname reconfiguration: Changing the IP address or hostname of a PBX server requires manual reconfiguration. This appliance automatically detects and adapts to networking changes, helping ensure smooth migrations, recoveries, and instance replacements. Expandable storage architecture with simple growth tools: The system starts with a smaller and more cost effective 20GB disk footprint. Storage is built on an LVM based architecture designed for easy expansion and operational reliability. Additional AWS EBS volumes can be attached at any time and integrated using the included add disk space utility, which automatically detects new disks and guides administrators through expanding storage where needed. Segmented filesystem design for improved reliability: Critical system areas are separated into dedicated filesystems to help prevent disk usage problems in one area from affecting the entire PBX system. Firewall safe deployment process: Firewall configuration is handled carefully during installation to reduce the risk of administrative lockouts; one of the most common deployment issues with FreePBX systems. Optimized for smaller AWS instances: System services and memory usage are tuned specifically for efficient cloud operation, allowing reliable performance on smaller EC2 instance types where many PBX images experience resource issues. Simplified operational tools: Helpful command line shortcuts are included for administrators and consultants. Common Asterisk commands such as: core show version pjsip show endpoints can be executed directly from the shell without requiring manual asterisk syntax or elevated workflows. Built by telephony engineers: This appliance was created by professionals with extensive real world experience operating large scale VoIP and telephony systems. The included enhancements focus on preventing the operational problems that commonly impact production PBX environments. Free community edition: This edition is available at no cost for business, development, testing, and production use. Optional paid support offerings are available for organizations requiring professional assistance, but support is never mandatory.
