Overview Apache APISIX is a high performance, scalable open source cloud native API gateway built on NGINX and etcd. It provides dynamic routing, load balancing, authentication, rate limiting, observability and a rich plugin ecosystem, and it manages all of its configuration through a real time admin API and a graphical Dashboard. This image delivers APISIX fully installed and configured as a system service, with its etcd config store and the APISIX Dashboard, so a production grade API gateway is running within minutes of launch.
Application Stack The Apache APISIX gateway installed from the official Apache APISIX package repository and run by a dedicated service account. A single node etcd config store, the source of truth for every route, upstream, service, consumer and plugin, with its data directory on a dedicated data disk so the gateway configuration is independently resizable and survives instance replacement. The APISIX Dashboard graphical management interface. An nginx reverse proxy that publishes the Dashboard on port 80. Systemd services that start the whole stack on boot and restart it on failure.
API Gateway Route and proxy traffic to your upstream services with dynamic, hot reloaded configuration. Apply authentication, key auth, JWT, rate limiting, request and response rewriting, CORS, observability and dozens more plugins per route. Configure everything through the admin REST API or the graphical Dashboard, and APISIX applies changes in real time with no restart. The gateway data plane serves HTTP on port 9080 and HTTPS on port 9443.
Secure First Boot On the first boot of your instance a one shot service generates a fresh admin API key and a fresh Dashboard administrator password, unique to that instance, writes them into the gateway and Dashboard configuration and records them in a root only file. The etcd config store and the admin API bind to the loopback interface only and are never exposed. No shared or default credentials ship in the image.
Ready To Use The APISIX Dashboard is served on port 80 through nginx. Sign in with the generated administrator credentials to create routes and upstreams, attach plugins, manage consumers and watch traffic. The admin API is available on the loopback interface for automation and infrastructure as code. A demo route is seeded on first boot so the gateway and the Dashboard show real data immediately.
cloudimg Support 24/7 technical support by email and chat. Help with deployment, route and upstream design, plugin configuration, authentication and rate limiting, the etcd config store, the Dashboard, TLS and gateway tuning.
Use Cases A unified API gateway and reverse proxy for microservices. North south and east west traffic management in Kubernetes and on virtual machines. Authentication, rate limiting and observability for public APIs. A Kong or NGINX Plus alternative built on open source. Canary releases, traffic splitting and request transformation at the edge.

Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
Version release notes

Additional details
Usage instructions
Connect via SSH on port 22 as the default login user for your operating system variant (the user guide lists it per variant). The APISIX Dashboard is served on port 80: browse to http://<instance-public-ip>/ and sign in with user admin and the generated password. Retrieve the credentials with: sudo cat /root/apache-apisix-credentials.txt. The APISIX admin API is served on the loopback interface at http://127.0.0.1:9180/apisix/admin/ behind the generated admin API key (header X-API-KEY); manage routes, upstreams, services and consumers there or through the Dashboard. The gateway data plane serves HTTP on port 9080 and HTTPS on port 9443; open those ports in your security group per your routing needs (they are not opened by default). The etcd config store, the source of truth for all gateway configuration, lives on a dedicated data disk mounted at /var/lib/apisix.
