You pay by the hour based on the EC2 instance size you choose to run this VPN network server. All seven options use the t3 instance family, which shares the same setup. They differ only in compute capacity, from t3.nano at the smallest end up through t3.micro, t3.small, t3.medium, t3.large, t3.xlarge, and t3.2xlarge. Larger instances offer more processing power and memory to handle more devices or network traffic. Your hourly rate rises with instance size. Pick the size that matches your expected network load. Billing follows actual usage hours, with no upfront commitment.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the hourly charge cover, and does it include the software itself?
The hourly rate covers running the VPN network server software on the EC2 instance size you pick. Standard AWS infrastructure charges for the instance and storage apply separately. The software is open source and self-hosted, so you run your own private network rather than a centralized VPN server.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or powered off?
Hourly software charges apply only while the instance runs. When you stop the instance, software metering pauses. You may still owe underlying AWS storage fees for the stopped instance, but the software rate meters running time only.
How do I choose which t3 instance size to run?
Match the size to your expected network load. Each option runs the same VPN network server software. Larger instances add processing power and memory for more connected devices or traffic. Since there is no upfront commitment, you can start small and move to a larger instance as your network grows.
