What does one hourly unit cover for a given instance type?
Each unit is one hour that a single EC2 Arm-based instance runs Oracle Linux 8 with support. The instance type you pick, such as t4g.small or m7g.4xlarge, sets the rate. You are billed per running instance, per hour, based on that instance's size and family.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or paused?
The software charge meters running hours only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software fee. Standard AWS charges for attached storage may still apply while the instance is stopped, but those are separate from this software rate.
How do I move to a different instance type, and does my rate change?
You launch on the instance type that fits your workload. If you switch to a larger or smaller type, the hourly rate changes to match that instance. There is no upfront commitment, so you can change instances as needs shift and pay the new hourly rate.
