What do I get for the hourly rate on each instance type?
You get a hardened Ruby on Rails image running on the Amazon EC2 instance you select. The instance sets your compute, memory, and storage capacity. The image ships with current updates applied. Your hourly rate is tied to the instance type you launch, not to user count or data volume.
Am I charged the software rate when my instance is stopped?
The hourly software charge meters running time. When you stop an instance, the software rate stops accruing. Stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but those are separate AWS charges, not the image software rate. Billing resumes when you restart the instance.
How do I lower or raise my cost after launch?
Cost scales with the instance you run. To lower cost, launch a smaller instance type; to raise capacity, launch a larger one. There are no tiers or committed amounts. You are not billed per user or per request. Switching instance size is a manual choice you control at launch.
