This listing carries no software charge, so you pay only for the AWS EC2 instance you run. Each dimension names a specific EC2 instance type, billed hourly. The options span general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, burstable, and bare-metal families. Sizes range from small burstable instances to very large high-memory machines. You pick the instance type that matches the CPU, memory, and workload you need. Larger instances with more resources cost more per hour. The pricing scales with the instance size and family you select, not with any feature tiers of the operating system itself.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit map to for billing?
Each dimension maps to one specific EC2 instance type running for one hour. You are billed for the hours that instance runs, at the rate set for that instance family and size. The operating system itself carries no separate software charge.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped?
Hourly charges apply only while the instance runs. A fully stopped instance stops accruing hourly charges. You may still pay underlying AWS fees for attached storage, but the operating system adds no software cost here.
Do I need maintenance updates, and is that included?
openSUSE Leap receives regular bug fixes and security updates, applied with zypper patch commands. These updates come from the community distribution at no extra software charge. You pay only for the EC2 instance hours you run.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
