You pay by the hour for a Windows Server 2025 Datacenter machine image, billed on usage with no upfront commitment. Each dimension maps to a specific AWS EC2 instance type, so your hourly rate depends on the instance you choose. Options span many families: general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, high-memory, and accelerated instances. Sizes range from small shared instances to bare-metal and very large machines. Larger instances with more CPU, memory, or storage carry higher hourly rates. You select the instance that fits your workload, and the software plus vendor support is bundled into that hourly charge.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I get for the hourly rate on each instance type?
Each hourly rate covers a running Windows Server 2025 Datacenter machine image on the EC2 instance type you select. The rate bundles the operating system license and vendor support. The instance you pick sets the CPU, memory, and storage you receive, which determines your hourly rate.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or powered off?
Software charges meter running instance-hours. When you stop an instance, the hourly software charge stops accruing. Stopped instances may still incur separate AWS storage fees for their attached volumes, but the vendor's software and support charge applies only while the instance runs.
How does my bill change if I switch to a different instance type?
Each dimension is billed independently at its own hourly rate. If you launch a different instance type, that instance meters at its own rate. Running several instances at once bills each separately on the same invoice. Instances with more CPU, memory, or storage carry higher hourly rates.
