AWS Well Architected Framework Review (WAFR)

The Well-Architected Framework Review (WAFR) is an AWS framework that provides best practise guidance for architecting and designing solutions within the AWS public cloud. It comprises six pillars – Reliability, Security, Performance Efficiency, Cost Optimisation, Sustainability and Operational Excellence. The Well-Architected Framework Review programme enables Amazon Web Services (AWS) partners to work with customers to review their architectures, posing key foundational questions and providing guidance on how to improve their cloud-based architectures and better understand the business impact of design decisions.

Based on the experience of designing and reviewing thousands of customers' architectures, the AWS Well-Architected Framework (WAFR) provides a consistent approach to evaluating workloads against the qualities you might expect from modern cloud-based systems. Through the AWS Well-Architected Framework Reviews, organisations can receive advice on optimising their AWS public cloud estates from Colibri Digital's AWS experts who follow specified design principles and other best practises for infrastructure architecture.

As an authorised AWS Well-Architected Review partner, our experts can help you assess how specific architectures align with cloud best practises and identify areas for improvement, helping customers to design and operate reliable, secure, efficient, and cost-effective systems in the cloud.

How Do We Do It? The review will assess a specific, business-critical workload against the six pillars of the Well-Architected Framework. The workshop typically takes a day and is delivered free of charge. Additionally, Colibri Digital will host a session together to discuss our findings and suggested approach, taking the time to answer any questions that might arise and leave the customer with a copy of the materials for them to review in their own time.

The WAFR is actually - a 'paper exercise' on a single workload which looks to undertake a high-level review across the six pillars to identify any risks attributable to non-compliance with AWS architectural best practises. In addition, we utilise our application and data experts to give you a more rounded view of the potential improvements across the entire solution.

Delivery of the WAFR is conducted by one of our certified AWS solution professionals by working with a suitable technical and business resource from within the organisation who is conversant with the workload. There are several questions per pillar that the customer stakeholder will need to answer for Colibri Digital to record the findings via the online WAFR portal. The portal will, based on the responses, rate each question on whether it meets best practises or is a high risk or a medium risk. A PDF report is then generated within the portal. We'll then present the recommendations tailored to your business objectives and deliver a list of findings prioritised by business benefit and risk based on our experience.

On completion of the review, the customer will receive a report with details on each design pillar to denote whether it is well architected, optimisation is recommended, or a critical issue has been identified.
