Who this is for:
Platform engineers and integrators who need a repeatable EC2 foundation with the STIG filesystem layout already in place - before applying your own profiles or subscribing to a scored StigReady Applied image.
What you get (StigReady Base tier):
Separate mounts for /home, /tmp, /var, /var/log, /var/log/audit, /var/tmp (applied at install; not retrofittable after launch)
EC2 cloud baseline: IMDSv2 required, no pre-installed SSH authorized_keys, PermitRootLogin and password SSH disabled, host keys regenerated on first boot
Built from official OS install media; patched at build time
Boot-verified on real AWS EC2 Nitro before release
Marketplace OS metadata may show CentOS family for API compatibility; the image is AlmaLinux from official media.
Pricing: one flat software fee of $0.02/hr (or $149 per instance per year on an annual plan), the same on every supported instance type; it does not change with instance size. EC2 infrastructure is billed separately by AWS.
AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay an hourly software fee for this hardened AlmaLinux 10 image, billed per running instance on top of your normal EC2 costs. The 14 dimensions are not tiers or feature levels. They are arm64 (Graviton) EC2 instance sizes. You pick the instance type that matches your compute needs. T4g options cover general-purpose burstable sizes from micro through 2xlarge. M6g and M7g cover general-purpose sizes. C6g covers compute-focused sizes. Larger instances carry a higher hourly rate. The underlying software capabilities stay the same across every size.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I get for the hourly software fee on each instance size?
You get a hardened AlmaLinux 10 image with a STIG partition layout and SSH hardening. It is built from the official OS ISO, fully patched, and boot-tested on Nitro EC2. You bring your own security profiles and tooling. The software fee is the same capability across every instance size.
Am I charged the software fee when an instance is stopped?
The software fee meters per running instance-hour. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the hourly software charge. You may still pay underlying AWS storage fees while stopped, since those are billed separately by AWS. Charges resume when the instance runs again.
Does this software fee cover my EC2 instance costs too?
No. The hourly rate is a software fee charged on top of your normal EC2 costs. AWS bills the underlying compute separately. Larger instance sizes carry a higher software rate, and they also carry higher AWS compute charges that appear on your AWS invoice.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
