You pay by the hour for this ready-to-run media server image on Windows Server 2019. Pricing follows the AWS EC2 instance type you choose to run it on. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size, so the hourly rate scales with the compute resources of that instance. Smaller burstable instances (the t2, t3, and t3a families) suit lighter workloads. The general-purpose m-series families (m3, m4, m5, and variants like m5a, m5d, m5n, m5dn, m5ad) offer more CPU and memory as sizes grow from large to metal. Pick the instance that fits your streaming needs.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover, and what resources come with each instance type?
One unit is one running EC2 instance of the type you pick, billed per hour. The instance family and size set the CPU and memory you get. Burstable t2, t3, and t3a families suit lighter use. The m-series families scale up CPU and memory as size grows.
Am I charged when the instance is stopped or powered off?
Software charges meter running instance-hours only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue hourly software charges. You may still pay underlying AWS storage fees for the disk while the instance is stopped. Charges resume once you start the instance again.
Does the media server software cost more on a larger instance type?
The software runs the same across all instance types. Your hourly rate reflects the compute size you select, not extra software features. Larger m-series sizes carry more CPU and memory, so their hourly rate is higher. Port 8096 TCP must be open to reach the server.
