Overview phpMyFAQ is a popular open source, self-hosted FAQ and knowledge base application used by companies, support teams and communities worldwide to publish categorised, searchable question and answer content. This image delivers phpMyFAQ 4 fully installed and configured as a production LAMP application, so a complete knowledge base is running within minutes of launch, with all of your content staying on your own server.

Application Stack phpMyFAQ 4 running on PHP 8.3 with the Apache web server and mod_php on port 80, backed by a MariaDB database. The MariaDB datadir and phpMyFAQ's own content tree (configuration plus uploaded images and attachments) live on a dedicated data volume so they are independently resizable and survive instance replacement. Systemd manages the database and the web server, starting them on boot and restarting them on failure.

Self-Hosted Knowledge Base Publish categorised questions and answers with a WYSIWYG editor, let visitors find answers with full text search, run content in multiple languages, control who sees and edits what with user and group permissions, and manage news, a glossary, attachments, comments and PDF export, all from one web interface. phpMyFAQ installs its schema and administrator through its own setup wizard, which this image has already completed and locked away from the web.

Secure First Boot On the first boot of your instance a one shot service generates a fresh database password and a fresh administrator password, both unique to that instance, and writes the administrator password to a file only the root user can read. No shared or default credentials ship in the image, and the shipped build-time administrator credential is rotated to an unusable random before capture so it can never be used.

Ready To Use The phpMyFAQ web interface is served on port 80 through Apache. Browse to your instance address and sign in with the generated administrator credentials to create categories, publish FAQs, configure search and permissions, and manage users. phpMyFAQ points itself at your instance address automatically on first boot, so links, PDF exports and the sign-in form all work on the address you reach it on.
