Overview
The ESG Book Decarbonisation Analytics Suite enables investors to understand the emissions profile of their portfolio holdings. The Decarbonisation Analytics Suite consists of three parts:
- Reporting Quality Section, which summarises the quantity and quality of reported data. This section also indicates if any estimates are used in the following sections.
- Net Zero ITR Alignment Section, which highlights the 2030 and 2050 ITR of the company based on their historical emission trends. We provide separate ITRs for Scope 1+2 and Scope 1+2+3 to offer options for comparing companies across their full value chain but also for the more commonly disclosed Scope 1+2 emissions only.
- Target Alignment Section, which compares the company's emissions performance against their set targets to understand if they are on track to meeting these targets. The dataset builds upon and complements our Standardised and Derived (Reported and Estimated) Emissions Raw Data, which consists of all reported and estimated emissions metrics for Scope 1, Scope 2 (location and market-based), Scope 3 total, and the 15 Scope 3 categories.
Features
Unique Features of the Decarbonisation Analytics Suite:
- Industry-aligned: The underlying data is collected according to industry standards. Reported emissions data is aligned with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and targets data is obtained from the committed and approved SBTi targets database. Our ITR methodology is aligned with the TCFD's PAT guidance and based on the IEA's World Energy Outlook.
- Unique approach to reduce assumptions and capture actual climate impact: Many ITR approaches presently use an emissions intensity approach which involves in-built assumptions on projecting future sector-based GDP. Our approach looks at ITR from an absolute perspective, reducing this additional assumption thus improving the robustness and explainability of the ITR outputs. Furthermore, we employ a cumulative emissions approach, which improves the accuracy of our ITR projection per company as we take into account the already emitted emissions of the company, which will remain in the atmosphere for decades to come.
- Modularity: The Decarbonization Analytics Suite outputs are designed to facilitate a multitude of use cases, and cross-comparisons, by providing a set of metrics rather than final scores only. Users can apply the individual modules separately or in conjunction, as determined by their needs.
- Transparency: As part of the analytics, we offer in-depth granularity on the trends and benchmarks that are used, providing traceability and transparency into the calculation methodology. The use of estimated emissions are also explicitly indicated, allowing for users to filter by only reported emissions data depending on their use case or risk appetite. The underlying data collected on our frameworks are also publicly available on our disclosure platform, including the source documentation for each datapoint.
