Overview
Ubuntu Pro EKS is an Ubuntu AWS Machine Image, optimized for EKS with 10 years of security maintenance, covering not only the OS but also its 3rd party open source repositories. Clusters built from this AMI can also benefit from using this extended security maintenance in an unlimited number of containers running on the cluster. This allows teams to consume freely open source software while meeting internal security, governance and compliance requirements.
Ubuntu Pro EKS remains fully-compatible with Ubuntu EKS 24.04 LTS, adding additional security, enabled by default, as well as compliance and management tools in a form suitable for small to large-scale Linux operations.

To deploy Ubuntu worker nodes on EKS, you can use eksctl, EC2 Launch templates on the EKS web console, Cloudformation templates and other mechanisms.

This listing carries no software license fee. You pay per hour based only on the Arm-based EC2 instance you run it on. Each dimension maps to a specific instance type, so pricing scales with the compute size and family you choose. General-purpose (m, t4g), compute (c), memory (r, x), storage (i, im, is), and graphics or HPC (g5g, hpc7g) families are all covered. Smaller sizes like medium and large cost less per hour; larger sizes such as metal and 48xlarge cost more. Choose the instance that fits your workload and pay for the hours you use.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
The hourly rate reflects the AWS instance-hours you run. This listing carries no separate software license fee. You pay for the underlying Arm-based EC2 compute by the hour, based on the instance type you select. The Ubuntu Pro image itself adds no license charge.
Hourly charges accrue only while an instance runs. Fully stopped instances do not accrue software or compute hours. You may still pay underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but the hourly meter counts running time only.
Each dimension maps to one Arm-based EC2 instance type. Smaller sizes like medium and large offer less compute per hour. Larger sizes like 24xlarge, 48xlarge, and metal offer more compute and cost more per hour. Match the size and family to your workload's compute and memory needs.

For Ubuntu Cloud Guest it is suggested to manually configure your Security Group/Firewall settings. The 1-Click Security Group opens only port 22 so that you can access your instance via ssh using login 'ubuntu'. If you chose the 1-Click Security Group, you may change it later to enable applications using the AWS Console or API.
