You pay by the hour for RHEL 9 running on your chosen Amazon EC2 instance type. Each dimension maps to a single EC2 instance size, so the rate reflects that instance's capacity. Options span general-purpose families (t2, t3, m5, m6i, m7i), compute-optimized families (c5, c6i, c7i), memory-optimized families (r5, r6i, r7i, x2), storage- and GPU-focused families, and high-memory bare-metal types. Larger sizes within a family carry higher hourly rates. You select the instance that fits your workload, and billing scales with usage. There is no upfront commitment; you are charged only while instances run.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually receive when I select an hourly instance-type dimension?
Each dimension launches RHEL 9 on the matching Amazon EC2 instance size you choose. The instance type sets your CPU, memory, and any attached storage or GPU capacity. You are billed one hourly rate for that running instance. The image includes updates, firewalls, and network protocols, launched with 1-Click.
Am I charged when my instance is stopped or paused?
The hourly software rate meters running time only. A stopped or paused instance does not accrue this software charge. Underlying AWS resources, such as attached storage, may still bill separately while the instance is stopped. Charges resume when you start the instance again.
How does the hourly billing work, and is there any upfront commitment?
Billing is usage-based. You pay only for the hours each instance runs, with no upfront commitment. If you switch to a different instance type, the rate changes to match that type. Running several instances bills each one independently, and all charges appear on the same AWS invoice.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
