Microsoft HPC Pack 2019 Cluster on Windows Server 2022
Deploy a high-performance computing (HPC) cluster by using Microsoft® HPC Pack 2019 on AWS. HPC Pack allows you to create and manage HPC clusters consisting of Windows or Linux compute nodes, part-time servers, workstation computers, and dedicated or on-demand compute resources that are deployed in AWS.
This image contains the Windows Server 20122 operating system with HPC Pack 2019 setup package to create the head node of an HPC Pack 2019 cluster or add additional compute nodes to an existing cluster in AWS. Choose to install using Microsoft SQL Server 2019 Express locally or use an existing SQL DB. We recommend using a VM size with at least 8 vCPUs. If you plan to add cluster compute nodes to the head node, the VM must be created in a AWS virtual network - VPC. Configure the network before creating the VM.

You pay by the hour for this HPC Pack 2019 cluster running on Windows Server 2022. Pricing is usage-based, so charges accrue only while an instance runs. The many dimensions correspond to different EC2 instance types you can choose to deploy. Each instance type sets a distinct hourly rate tied to its compute, memory, and hardware profile. Larger instances with more cores, memory, GPU, or storage carry higher hourly rates. You select the instance type that fits your head node and compute node needs, then scale by adding as many nodes as required.

What does one hourly instance charge cover for building an HPC Pack cluster?
Each hourly rate covers one running EC2 instance with the HPC Pack 2019 image preinstalled on Windows Server 2022. You deploy separate instances for the head node and each compute node. Every running instance is billed independently per hour, based on the instance type you select.
Am I charged when a compute node or head node is stopped?
Software charges accrue per running instance per hour. Stopped instances do not accrue the hourly software charge. Underlying AWS storage fees may still apply while an instance is stopped. To avoid software charges on idle nodes, stop the instances you are not using.
How does cost scale as I add more nodes to my cluster?
You deploy as many nodes as you need, and each running node adds its own hourly charge. A cluster's total cost is the sum of every running instance's hourly rate. Adding nodes or choosing instance types with more cores, memory, or GPU raises your combined hourly cost.
