Please evaluate carefully based on your business needs. After the AMI is deployed, changing the operating system type will require deploying a new AMI and re-installing the applications. The following features that are critical to run SAP workload are only available in SLES 4 SAP Applications, but not in regular SLES: 3 Years Extended Service Pack Overlap Support (ESPOS) , SLES High Availability Extension (Pacemaker framework), High Availability Solutions for NetWeaver, S/4HANA & HANA System Replication, Continuous tuning agent (saptune), Kernel Live Patching, Lifecycle Management Module, Workload Memory Protection. Each of these add significant value to a successful, high-performing SAP Landscape.
SLES for SAP Applications 15 introduced the following new features: -Improved high availability capabilities including early recognition of primary system failures -Pre/post-script commands to adapt SAP HANA failover/recovery to user-defined scenarios and internal tools -Workload Memory Protection replaces Page Cache Management to prioritize performance of SAP applications. If you intend to run SLES for SAP on Reserved Instances, make sure to purchase them in EC2 Console using Linux/Unix or Linux/Unix (Amazon VPC) as Platform selection. You can configure a system to run SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. The first is to boot an instance running SUSE Linux in Amazon EC2. Once your image is running, you can use all of the standard SUSE tools including YaST and zypper to add packages and configure the system.
