AWS Marketplace now accepts line of credit payments through the PNC Vendor Finance program. This program is available to select AWS customers in the US, excluding NV, NC, ND, TN, & VT.
Pricing is based on actual usage, with charges varying according to how much you consume. Subscriptions have no end date and may be canceled any time. Alternatively, you can pay upfront for a contract, which typically covers your anticipated usage for the contract duration. Any usage beyond contract will incur additional usage-based costs.
Additional AWS infrastructure costs may apply. Use the AWS Pricing Calculator to estimate your infrastructure costs.
You pay by the hour for the EC2 instance type you run the Plane AMI on. All dimensions bill on the same software plus infrastructure basis, so your rate follows the compute size you pick. Options range across general-purpose and compute-optimized families in small and medium or large sizes. Larger or higher-performance instances carry higher hourly rates. There are no tiers or seat charges. You choose the instance during CloudFormation setup, and the guide recommends t3.medium. You can stop or start the instance anytime to control what you pay.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually get when I pay the hourly rate for an instance type?
You pay for the running EC2 instance where the Plane AMI is installed. Each instance type maps to a set amount of vCPU and memory. General-purpose families balance compute and memory. Compute-optimized families favor processing power. The hourly rate covers the pre-configured software plus that compute size.
Am I charged when I stop the Plane instance?
Software charges meter running time, so a fully stopped instance does not accrue hourly software fees. You can stop the instance from the EC2 console and start it again later. Note that AWS may still bill underlying storage for a stopped instance, separate from the software charge.
Does my rate change if I switch to a bigger instance type later?
Yes. Your hourly rate follows the instance type you run. You select the instance during CloudFormation setup. If you later launch a different type, the rate matches that size. Larger or higher-performance instances carry higher hourly rates. There are no seat charges or usage tiers layered on top.

CloudFormation Template (CFT)
AWS CloudFormation templates are JSON or YAML-formatted text files that simplify provisioning and management on AWS. The templates describe the service or application architecture you want to deploy, and AWS CloudFormation uses those templates to provision and configure the required services (such as Amazon EC2 instances or Amazon RDS DB instances). The deployed application and associated resources are called a "stack."
