You pay by the hour for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.7 running on the AWS EC2 instance type you choose. Each dimension maps to one specific instance type, so there are no tiers or plans to select. Pricing scales with the size and capability of the instance. General-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, and accelerated (GPU) families are all available. Within each family, larger sizes cost more per hour than smaller ones. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs, letting you match cost to your workload.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What do I actually get for the hourly rate on each instance type?
You get a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.7 machine image running on the AWS EC2 instance type named in that dimension. The rate covers the operating system license and vendor support. AWS charges the underlying compute, storage, and network separately. Each instance type sets its own CPU, memory, and hardware profile.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or paused?
The hourly software charge meters running time only. A stopped or paused instance does not accrue the per-hour software fee. You are billed for the hours the instance actually runs. Note that AWS may still charge for attached storage while an instance is stopped.
If I switch to a different instance type, how does my bill change?
Each dimension maps to one specific EC2 instance type with its own hourly rate. When you launch a different instance type, billing follows that type's rate for the hours it runs. There is no plan change or upgrade step. You simply pay the rate tied to whichever instance type you deploy.
